“What would I have to do to pass this rite Gran-Gran?” Sokka asks his Gran-Gran.
“Well first I would give you a mark on your right hand with a special paint. You would then need to travel to the old capital wearing no warm clothing. After that you would have to head to hall of light and solve the Riddle of Darkness. The riddle reveals the way to the Trial of Chaos. Should you pass trial of chaos the mark would change from the mark of the prince to the mark of the king. And if you obtain this mark you will become rightful ruler of all three water tribes. Do you want to take this rite Sokka?” Kana asks the boy.
“Yes and I will do you proud and pass it gran-gran.” Sokka says after thinking about it for a time.
Sokka fallows Kana into her hut, kana proceeds to paint a simple black spade like on a playing card upon the back of his right hand. Kana then removes Sokka’s parka as Katara gives her big brother a tearful hug goodbye. Sokka then leaves the village.
It takes Sokka six days to reach the abandoned city of the southern water tribe. He found it strange that he did not freeze to death in the time. Sokka was now running low on food but he pushed onwards quickly finding the hall of light. He easily salved the riddle of darkness. The answer was to move the stone alter by pulling down six shutters to cover six glowing white crystals. Sokka proceeds to take the reviled stairs down into the darkness. After quite a long walk Sokka came to a large chamber with glowing purple water.
Suddenly a large shadow appears from beneath the water growing larger as it got closer to the surface of the water. When the form finally brakes the water a massive amount of water is displaced luckily for Sokka none of the glowing water splashes on him. From the water rose a lion turtle, but this lion-turtle was different from most instead of the normal tan colors this one was black and white and evil looking. In front of the beast was a stone platform.
“I see another has come to attempt the rite of the king step forward to take the trial of chaos.” The lion turtle tells Sokka.
“Before I take it do you have any advice?” Sokka asks the sacred beast.
“Don’t give into your anger for it will make your opponent in this trial invincible. Remember that even in the dark there is light from the ones you love and loved. Step forward boy.” The lion turtle says in a feminine voice.
Sokka thinks on what he says as the beast’s right claw is raised and she places two of glowing purple claw’s to Sokka’s head and heart. Sokka’s eyes turn black and radiate a purple light as Sokka’s soul is sent to the spirit world.
