"... a Paladin must have armour."

A wonderful shiver runs out over his skin, emanating from the touch of her fingertips on his face, spreading out to cover his whole body. He waits with baited breath.

When nothing seems to happen, he peers closer towards the still surface of the water. As he does so, the surface is disturbed slightly. He stares closer and realises that the scant facial hair that his father demanded he attempt to cultivate on his chin and upper lip is now floating in the holy font.

He reaches his hands to his cheeks in surprise. The skin there is baby smooth. He fulls open the neck of his shirt. Again, his chest is smoother than marble. His fingers glide over the surface. He dare not open his pantaloons to check, yet he knows for sure that there is not a single hair remaining on his body, besides his eyebrows and his golden locks.

"Behold your armour, my child," croons the Goddess. "The Silken Shield. Skin so smooth that no piercing weapon may break it but will merely glide off it."

"Am I to fight in battle then?" Edward asked tremulously. He had never been at all good in martial matters.

"No, no, my child. I give you this armour so that you may walk among the enemy without fear of death. But you must never sully yourself with war. Indeed, should you ever lay your hand upon another in violence, my displeasure shall be so great that you will be cast out and forever barred from the gates of heaven. Thou must bring peace and love to all... by leading others to fight for me."

Edwards brow furrows in confusion. "But I thought you said-"

"Thou art to be a leader of men," the Goddess affirms. "To stir others to acts of faith and valor, though never to take up arms yourself."

Though he didn't quite understand, it seemed to Edward that he was fated to become a commander of some sort. In any event, the part about personal non-violence had been clear enough. He nodded energetically.
