Chapter #3

Earth Primal

    by: Yote Author IconMail Icon
The history of Primal Earth diverged long eons ago, in the dark distant past of prehistory. It was a minor difference, insignificant, an ant trodden on at the wrong moment, but enough to snowball a chain of events that ultimately lead to not one species emerging to take its place as planetary apex predator, but many. While humanity stayed in the trees, canines, cats, reptiles, and many others raced ahead in evolution, raced each other, developing bigger brains and bipedalism, becoming intelligent masters of tools.

As the races expanded and encountered each other, it was inevitable that conflict would arise. And arise it did. The races fought each other to a bloody stalemate for many thousands of years, wars that accelerated advancements in technology and industry as the races sought out a competitive edge, yet at the same time stripping the planet of its resources at an exponential rate. At its zenith, the art of war was perfected, the races fielding technologies of spectacularly efficient brutality unseen on Earth Prime. Even still, the stalemate endured.

And as the eons passed, the resources began to run out. The oil that powered the war machines ran dry, as did the coal used to smelt metal, and the uranium for the nuclear bombs that had decimated the planet. Slowly, the endless war wound down, returning to the age of infantry of old, where combatants fought each other with tooth and claw.

Though they may appear so at first, the beast men are not savages or barbarians. Their culture and technological understanding is great, they simply lack the resources to implement it for anything non-essential, such that their societies are a curious mix of the old and the new.

The war still wages. The stalemate is absolute, the battle lines dug deep and unchanging in generations. But perhaps the arrival of a new breed of humans and the opening of a portal to a world still (relatively) rich in mineral wealth can tip the balance in favour of your race.

Races
The indigenous humans of Earth primal are stunted and docile, with the intellect of animals. They live in the wild and are kept in captivity by the felinids.

A fully grown felinid stands anywhere from 7 to 11 feet tall, and resembles an upright walking big cat, like a tiger or leapard. Their females are ferocious warriors and hunters, while their males tend to be more subdued, living lives of leisure and partnered with multiple females.

The canids are evolved canines of roughly human height. Though not as physically imposing as the cats, they fight as highly effective packs following an alpha leader.

Reptilia are the most technologically advanced race, but are currently suffering a population crisis having been pushed from their historical breeding grounds. They are capable of changing gender according to the needs of the population.
