Chapter #4

She accidentally shrinks herself

    by: Kooplan Author IconMail Icon
Seven years. That's how many long years had passed since Ganondorf's evil reign began. The once peaceful country of Hyrule had quickly fallen into shambles without a hero, or a princess to guide it.

Unbeknownst to most, however, the long-thought dead princess Zelda had survived. Thanks to her trusty caretaker, Impa, Zelda had learned the ways of the Sheikah and was able to use magic to disguise herself amongst them. Using her learned ninja-like skills and training, Zelda had donned the persona of "Sheik" and gone into hiding some time after the near collapse of her kingdom.

Using this disguise, princess Zelda was able to keep herself safe until the time would come that the hero of time would awake from his years-long rest and rescue the kingdom from Ganondorf and his evil forces. Those seven years had been grueling, but the time was soon coming for the hero named Link to return...

Sheik, or rather, Zelda, was in a rush, she'd been on a mission to make sure the paths the hero would need to take were still accessible to him. In the previous months, she was doing everything she could to make sure that Link's journey would be a smooth, if not still dangerous, one to take. With everything now seemingly in order, Zelda hurried to the Temple of Time, for it was there that Link was destined to return from, and it was there that she was needed to wait for him to guide him.

With impressive agility, Zelda was able to traverse the wasteland of Hyrule Field quite easily while in her Sheik persona. It pained her to see all the remnants of destruction that Ganondorf had left in his wake over the past seven years, but she knew his time was almost over. She keep her wits about her and, silently as she could, dashed across the formerly prosperous field.

However, in her haste, Zelda had not yet noticed that she was being tailed by Ganondorf's minions, who had been watching her since she started scouting out the temples. With skills that nearly matched Zelda's own, they followed her, waiting for the most opportune moment to strike.

Zelda was blissfully unaware of her pursuers presence as she neared the ruins of Hyrule Castle Town. She allowed herself to slow down and breathe a sigh of relief, thinking in her mind that her long awaited savior would soon be here. She wondered how long she might have to wait for him in the Temple of Time. She chuckled softly to herself at the thought of waiting, the closest thing she'd had to a laugh in many years, and decided in her mind that she'd be fine waiting a little bit longer if it meant that her Kingdom could be saved.

Zelda prepared herself to scale the walls of the town, knowing it was better to avoid the zombie-like Re-deads that now inhabited the whole place if she could. But just as neared the bridge to the town, she was suddenly grabbed from behind. She gasped as she was thrown to the ground. With her quick reflexes, Zelda was able to easily get up and recover from the surprise attack. She prepared to strike back with some kunai, but stopped herself for a moment when she saw just who had been following her.

Standing before the former princess was a near small army-sized group of monsters. Zelda glared at the gang of beasts, cursing herself inwardly for being so careless to let such a large group track her to the town. Nearly 50 sneaky beasts had tailed her. Zelda was confident to be able to take a few of them down, but her training hadn't really prepared her to fight off so many attackers at once. This seemed to be her final challenge before the return of Link.

With the cry of what appeared to be their leader, the monsters rallied together for a coordinated, yet somewhat clumsy, assault on the princess. The princess immediately jumped into action, using every available technique and weapon in her arsenal to fight of the horde. Zelda was feeling confident as she pummeled foe after foe, but somehow it appeared that for every enemy she bested, three more took their place.

The odds were stacked against her, and the horde was succeeding in wearing her down. Zelda knew she would lose if this kept up, so instead of staying to lose the fight, she decided to cut her losses and try a more risking maneuver by running away across the bridge to Castle Town ruins. Her plan was to lose the horde by running into the Re-Dead infested town, but a quick glance behind her told her that the mod was more fearless than she expected, and they followed her right into the town.

Her first plan not working, Zelda went about trying to lose them in the maze-like ruins of the town instead. If nothing else, she knew she was faster than the monsters, so losing them wouldn't be too hard. In and out of the twists and turns of the ruined town Zelda ran, using her intimate knowledge of the layout of the town to her advantage to lose her pursuers. It took some minutes, but Zelda soon succeeded in throwing them off.

Zelda felt relieved that she lost her foes, but then another problem arose. She'd inadvertently backed herself into a corner near the entrance of the town, it made for a good hiding spot, but if she wanted to make a break for the Temple of Time, she'd surely be spotted, and letting them catch onto her plans at the temple was something she could not do. But at the same time, she couldn't just wait for them to leave. Ganondorf's minions were nothing if not determined, they'd not stop looking for her, ever. Zelda wasn't sure she'd be able to really take on so many enemies at once again. She needed a different plan, anything that could help her now.

Zelda consulted the words Impa had passed onto her so many years ago, she needed to concentrate on them now more then ever. As she continued to stay hidden, Zelda tried recall a move or technique or spell or anything that Impa might've ever told her about during her training so long ago.

Then it came to her, the one spell that Impa had told her to never use unless she was in a desperate situation, and even then only as a last resort. Impa had never told her exactly what the spell would do, explaining to Zelda that she had to be vague in describing it as it only worked in certain ways sometimes, which is why Impa had told her to never use it. But Impa also, after much prodding and questioning from a younger Zelda, taught her the spell. Impa also went on and told her that she herself had once used it to conquer 50 men. Zelda always thought it was impressive, but Impa's harsh warnings had kept her from casting it, until now.

"Please, goddesses, let this work!" Zelda thought as she cast the spell.

Immediately, Zelda felt a powerful tingling sensation throughout her entire body, and she briefly wondered if it were some kind of strength-boosting spell. However, her hopes were soon dashed as, instead of growing strength, her body quickly shrank down. Zelda let out a yelp of shock as she watched the world around her stretch and grow to gigantic proportions. She crawled about frantically in her hidey hole, clawing at the air in the hopes of grabbing onto an invisible force that might stop her shrinking, but it was no use, the spell was cast and set in motion.

"This can't be right!" Zelda cried aloud as she dwindled further into smallness. Her height quickly melted away, leaving the worried princess smaller and weaker then ever! Just as Zelda thought things couldn't get worse...
