Sasuke had just finished his match with the Sound Ninja who could absorb Chakra, and had successfully created his new Taijutsu move, "The Lion's Barrage." During the match, his Curse Mark had flared up and he was taken aside by his sensei in order to stop the Curse Mark from affecting his body or mind.

After the process of applying the seals was complete, his sensei activated the seal that would, in theory, suppress the Curse Mark.
