Meanwhile, the real Allie was heading toward Jack's high school. Mentally, emotionally and psychologically she hadn't changed. She just thought her name was Jack and she was on her way to her classes. The problem was she didn't know where the school was. But she knew one of her friends (well Jack's friend Karl) was two houses down. She knocked on the door.
"Hey, Jack," said the person who opened the door.
"Want to walk to school together, Karl?"
"Sure thing, give me a minute to finish breakfast.
Allie went to the couch. She took off her book bag and put it next to her. Then she put her thumb into her mouth and began to suck. It was something she did every day. No one seemed to mind.
They left for school. Karl did most of the talking. Allie didn't know what he was talking about, but she didn't care. She needed an escort and she didn't want him to get mad at her. She simply agreed with whatever he said.
At school, Allie didn't know where any of her classes were. She had to ask for help and was taken to the office. One of the special education teachers was assigned to make sure she went to class. In class, she was totally lost. She couldn't read nor write. Well, she knew a few letters and how to spell her name, but that was it.
The escort was keeping notes of Allie's progress. Soon, a report would be filed and Allie would be properly placed in the correct class.
Things went from bad to worse when Allie wet her pants. The stress of the whole thing and her minimal potty knowledge was the cause.
Allie was removed from of the class. Everyone there knew what had happened.
A short while later, Allie's mother was called. She was told to come to school immediately.
If Allie is put into special education or sent back to pre-school that wouldn't matter to her. She belonged there. But if you get your life back, it would be you who would have to live with the consequences of Allie's one and only day in high school.
