As Ken browsed the game selection, he found a cute looking one called, “Faldipose!”, which, from the description underneath it, sounded like a monster collecting/battling game. He always did like Pokemon, but since they didn’t have that, he figured this might be the next best thing.
“Faldipose!; Explore a Fun World of Monsters and Myths. Befriend and Battle the Creatures as you Seek to Become Number One. NOTE: GAME STILL IN PROGRESS.”
He shrugged and tapped the holographic screen, unsure what to expect. Immediately, the ‘world’ around him shifted, from a void displaying thousands of video game titles, to a lush, green forest. He gasped as he felt the wind against his face, and grass between his toes. He was so caught up in how realistic this all was, before he suddenly realized that he also wasn’t wearing anything but a loincloth.
Embarrassed, his hands quickly moved to cover himself, not sure why the game had left him so scantly clad, “W-What the hell is this…?” He muttered, blushing. He looked around, but there wasn’t anyone else he could see. Just a beautiful, vibrantly green forest and a clear blue sky.
He wandered the field for a bit, taking in the majesty of the place, but was a tad disappointed. The game had promised monsters, didn’t it? Of course, it said it was also in development. Maybe they just weren’t implemented yet?
He continued on until, to his surprise, he saw what looked like a little house in the distance. He cautiously approached, not sure what else to do, and knocked on the wooden front door. When no one answered, he let himself inside.
The place was small, and full of strange beakers and books stacked on tables. In the middle of the hut, he saw a man standing there, and became embarrassed again over his partial nudity, but the man didn’t seem to mind. In fact, he wasn’t doing anything.
Out of curiosity, Ken approached the man. He was fat, and had started balding, but still had a good amount of curly black hair, and big sideburns. He wore an open lab coat, under which was a green vest buttoned tight around his bulging belly, khakis, and a pair of sandals.
“Um… Hello?” Ken asked the man, who suddenly seemed to notice him, “Ah! You must be the player! Pleased to meet you. My name is Professor Onyx, and welcome to the world of Faldipose!” He greeted a bit robotically, as if he were reading from a script.
“Uh… yeah, what is it, exactly?” Onyx smiled, “This world is full of monsters who we can meet and befriend! I’ll be your guide to offer any useful information you might need.” Ken crossed his arms, “I haven’t seen any monsters… yet.” “You hadn’t triggered the opening introduction; me!” Onyx grinned. Ken gawked, “So you’re…?” “An NPC, yes. But I’ll still be here to help out when I can! Don’t be afraid to try and ask me for anything.”
“Okay… uh… I-is there any way to get new clothes?” Ken asked, tugging at his loincloth. Onyx just chuckled, “’fraid not! Not yet at least. You’re still LV.1. You’ll need to grind some more if you want some clothes. You get more EXP from interacting with monster!” He cheerily answered. Not the response Ken was hoping for, but he sighed. At least it didn’t look like anyone else was playing this game.
“So, I can just leave and I’ll find monsters now?” “Yep! Sometimes they’re shy, but don’t worry, you’ll lure them out one way or another” He winked at him. At least he’d finally be able to play the game now.
He turned around and began to leave, until the Professor shouted behind him, “Don’t forget to come see me if you need anything! I’ll be waiting.” Ken rolled his eyes. He didn’t need another reminder. He left the NPC Professor’s house and ran back into the wilderness, hoping that now he might be able to find something fun to do now that he triggered the ‘intro’.
