You tried to remind yourself of your blood relation though you knew that in the cluster such taboos were nonexistent. She had long thick coco brown hair that went to the small of her back and an oval shaped head with a firm yet slender jawline sporting full lips and a petite nose that separated two big brown eyes. It was a good thing too that she sported such an attractive head because she had little else going for her. Literally. Her body began and ended at the base of her neck which featured a metal disk with several latch like protrusions on the outer rim.
"Huh. I imagine you'd be taller." You joke before you could stop yourself, imagining that she had heard that a lot.
Rather than huff in annoyance like you would however Desiree laughed, nearly knocking herself over with her guffaws. "My, you have my brother's sense of humor all right! So, how are you liking Velus so far?" She asked, tilting herself slightly as she did so.
"It's.. different. I mean there are a lot of people and they all seem kind of... different." You honestly reply.
"Well I'm sure you'll get used to it. Let me tell you I wasn't born here and now I can't imagine living anywhere else! So, do you have any pressing questions?" She inquired.
You were going to ask about rules and the general layout of the house but your mouth was bent on betraying you today and instead you asked "Why are you just a head?" You slapped yourself on the forehead, trying to cover by saying "Wait, shit, that came out wrong! I'm sorry, uh, if it's not a personal question I mean, uh..."
Desiree laughed at your stammering. "Oh please, it's not personal at all! I'm glad you're taking an interest in Velusian tech actually; you may want to try some of it while you're here, keep yourself from looking boring. To tell you the truth I'm actually not JUST a head." She informed you.
"Uh, then where's your body?" You questioned while doing a quick scan of the room for it in case you missed it though you couldn't see it.
"I don't have A body. I have many! This collar on my neck apart from being a sophisticated life support system is also what's known as a 'type-7 cranial link'. Basically I can put my head onto any body with a compatible link, allowing me to swap between them whenever I want!" She explained.
"Wow, that's incredible!" You exclaim, admiring the collar she wore. "So, why are you just a head right now then?"
Desiree grinned. "Well I was going to put on a body before you got here but I decide that since you're the guest I'd let you pick one out for me!" She told you. She turned her attention to Yuki whom you forgot was even there. "Would you take us to the vault Yuki?"
The bubbly girl nodded and scampered up to her master. Using one of her leg hands she removed the lid from one of the two serving platters, revealing them to be empty, and set Desiree in the middle of the tray. She then turned to you and asked for you to follow her. She guided you back through the main hall, through the dining room, through the storage room, and finally down a long flight of stairs, all the while explaining the history of the house.
You arrived in a circular room filled with over two dozen tubes, each one housing a headless body inside suspended in some sort of clear goo and with several wires and cords leading into the neck socket, perhaps to maintain their vitals and feed them. You studied each of them, all of them looking like rather beautiful specimens and getting your rather hot under the collar despite your best attempts to stay civil. Eventually you picked... indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
