You are a young male child, only 10 years old, just recently sent by your mother to hunt some small animals for food. You live in the outskirts of town, in the thin parts of the forest. As you walk around, looking for animals to hunt, you noticed a building nearby, blocked by the view of the trees, but barely visible. Getting closer, you noticed it look like a clock tower building, a small one to look just like a house. Deciding to explore, you get closer and get a better view. Making your way there, you noticed a recently dug up and fresh tombstone with the markings, "Daddy is just sleeping, he'll wake up soon." Weirded out, you enter the building. You soon realize that the building has a ton of tinkering items, weird gadgets and a assortment of items. As you looked around out of curiosity, you suddenly heard a girl around the same age, startling you.
"G-gah! W-what?! Who are you..?"
The girl looked surprised and taken back with your reaction. She took a step back.
"Woah! Calm down, jeez!" They took a second to catch their breath. "Sorry, I didn't know you were going to scream!" After a few more seconds of silence, she continues. "I'm Emily! My daddy built this workshop for me!"
As you look at the girl, you noticed something was off about her. For one, you first noticed that there are gadgets and gears attatched to her. She also weirdly looks...like a doll...what you mean by that, is that, she looks human enough, but she looks like she's made out of plastic, yet she's able to move somehow. You also noticed that she has an accent, (like a British accent). Thinking that maybe she looked weird naturally, you responded.
"Y-your dad? You mean the tombstone that's outside? Is he...dead..?"
As soon as you mentioned death, she immediately took offense to that. Suddenly, she was pissed!
"My dad is not...dead! He's just sleeping!" She clenched her fists, in an attempt to calm herself down, she took a deep breath...I'm sorry, I didn't want to yell at you. I'm just... upset right now." She looked sad.
"Sleeping? But...he's in a tombstone? So...he's dead..?"
Emily burst into tears. "STOP IT!" The cogs on her back started spinning, and her eyes began to glow.
Immediately, you responded.
"S-sorry! I didn't mean it! I'm just...confused by all this..."
Your apology, combined with the empathy you showed, managed to make Emily calm down. The cogs on her back slowed down and her eyes stopped glowing.
"I'm okay.... I'm okay...." She took a few deep breaths. "Yeah... That was stupid of me. I'm sorry, I just... This is all really hard to talk about."
You then asked why she looks weird...
"It's complicated... I am part human and part automata. My dad made me like this to make me strong, like a hero!" She showed off her strength by picking up a heavy toolbox and putting it on a table.
"I-Is it like magic? Why would he do such a thing? Wait, is he an artificer?"
"He is a genius inventor!" Emily's eyes glowed once again. She looked quite proud, "All of the gears are powered by electricity. I can feel it flowing through my circuits! When it's going through my cogs it is blue, but when it's in my wires, it turns orange! The gears are very small though, I can barley see them."
"I'm kinda surprised I've never noticed this place...were kinda like neighbors..."
Emily's smile returned to her face. She seemed happy.
"I am still sorry about earlier...It just makes me so mad when people say my daddy is dead." She paused for a few seconds. "So... You live near here too? Do you like going on adventures? I really like exploring the jungle!"
You decide not to bring up her dead father again.
"I-It's no problem...I like adventuring! I was just hunting the forest when I noticed this house!"
Emily's smile got even wider. She seemed excited that she finally had a friend to talk to.
"This is the best place to look for animals to hunt!" She exclaimed. "I love hunting rabbits, because they always drop so much meat! I like hunting the other animals too."
Emily seems to love hunting animals, but the way she says it seems creepy. indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
