Chapter #3

Heading Home!

    by: TheLastStoryWriter Author IconMail Icon
Brandon stood at the garage sale, wondering what to do next, when his watched beeped at him, reminding him that it was now 5 PM, and that he was in fact, going to be late for dinner with his family.
"Oh man, I'm going to be late for Spaghetti Night!" Brandon said, hurrying back to his car. He through the novel sized instruction booklet and the amulet in the passenger seat, put on his seatbelt, turned the key and drove off towards home.

Brandon didn't seem to notice that as he left the garage sale, the path behind him seemed to shift back to the wooded path that he talked about, the signs of a garage sale almost nowhere to be seen.

Ten to fifteen minutes later, he pulled into the driveway of his home in his small neighborhood where he grew up. It hadn't changed much since he was a kid, only that the houses had new owners with small children running around. He noticed that both that his father and mother were home, (his mother being home early wasn't surprising. She always got home first to cook), as he saw their cars in the driveway.

He noticed his older sister Sarah's car was also parked nearby, her car littered with logo's of Page Software, the small computer software company that his sister ran out of the rooms of the house. It was going surprisingly well for her, and when her parents retired in two years, his older sister Sarah was going to purchase the house and turn it into a complete home office, in order to continue save some money in a bad economy then renting out an office space.

Getting out of his car, and taking his newly purchased amulet and instruction manual with him, he headed inside. Once inside, he was hit with the delicious aroma of his Mom's world famous (at least according to Brandon) Spaghetti.
"Mmm" Brandon said, his mouth practically watering at the smell.
"Oh hello honey. How was your day?" His mother Ashley asked, preparing the dinner. Ashley Page was 46, and she was starting to show it. Her golden blonde hair was starting to grey a little, she was starting to get tired more easily, her looks began to fade. Still, she was one of the kindest nicest people that many would ever meet, and she was a good mother, balancing the act of being a mother and a teacher at the local High School for more than twenty years.

"It was fine. Did some odd jobs around town for extra cash" Brandon said heading up to his room.
"Don't mess around up there for too long! Dinner will be ready soon!" Ashley said, shouting up after her son.

Heading up to his room, he saw his father coming out of the master bedroom, getting changed over from his job at the office.
"Heya Brandon, how's it going son?" Tanner asked his son.
"Good Dad. How as the office?" Brandon asked.
"Fine, we're still busting our humps for the big account, but I'm confident we'll get it. I have a big presentation tomorrow." Tanner said.
Tanner Page was 50, but never let age slow him down. He's physically fit for a man his age, which is impressive considering how often he's sitting around the office.
"Where's Sarah?" Brandon asked.
"She's in her office. I wouldn't disturb her. Sounds like she had a rough day." Tanner said, heading downstairs to help his wife cook dinner.

Brandon snuck past his sister's office and into his room, which was just the way he left it when he went to college. His stack of movies rested in the corner, next to his bookshelf. His models and legos which got him interested in engineering lay strung about his room, on shelves and on tables. His laptop lay resting on his desk, some plans he drew up for something tucked neatly behind the screen saver.

Throwing the amulet and book on his bed, he kicked off his shoes and screwed around for a little bit on his computer, checking email messages, chatting with friends, and playing a game. Eventually, his eyes went back to the amulet.

Picking it up off the bed, he looked at it, wondering what the hell he was going to do with it. He finger traced each stone, stoping lastly at the one that supposedly held a twin pregnancy waiting to be transferred.

"Why the hell did I buy this?" He asked himself, suddenly wanting his five dollars back.
He threw the amulet back on his bed and picked up the instruction manual. Brandon loved books, but as he started glossing over this small novel, it wasn't written like a book, it was written like stereo instructions.

Brandon decided to...

You have the following choices:

*Noteb*
1. Thoroughly read the instructions. Better safe than sorry!

2. Oh man, so many words. Let's just skim it!

*Noteb* indicates the next chapter needs to be written.
