While this day was fated to be one Minako would dread to look back on, it certainly didn't appear that way at first. The school day came and went just like any other, and the afternoon flew by as well in the same humdrum manner. So humdrum, in fact, that Minako decided that it would be a good day to go to Tartarus after all. Aside from some whining from Yukari and Junpei, there weren't any real protests from the rest of the group. Minako couldn't really blame either of them, though, since the previous night's venture did go on a bit longer than she had hoped. With the increased number of battles as a result, the entire rest of the battle party other than her, that is, Yukari, Junpei, and Akihiko, all became exhausted and got sick, but they had made it to another terminal thanks to that, reaching an important milestone on their journey up the tower.
While Minako sympathized with them, and probably wouldn't have minded letting them stay behind, their job was important. Even Yukari and Junpei knew that, and the full moon was coming in just over a week. And besides, Akihiko, despite being sick, seemed even more eager to climb the tower. If he could pull it together, then the others should too... or was Akihiko just being reckless and delirious as a result of his cold?
Well, either way, she was going to leave those three on standby unless she really needed their specific skills. She wasn't heartless, after all.
With the decision made and the clock counting down, she went back to her room and set out to begin her special, secret ritual. While she went to great lengths to keep it a secret from the others, it wasn't really all that complicated. Despite calling it a ritual, it wasn't something so secretive and occult as conducting blood sacrifices, performing a magic chant or dance, or any of the strange things in fiction one might think of when hearing the word "ritual".
