The experiment had been prepared carefully. Every step was accounted for. Whatever the result, the safety of the gamma experiment was assured.
And then Bruce Banner spotted the teenager on the middle of the field.
"Call it off! There's someone out there!"
"What?!" screamed a voice back from the walkie talkie. "It's too late now! There's no way to stop it! They're gonna be-"
Bruce didn't bother listening to the rest. There was no time. He raced out onto the test site, signaling to the boy." Quickly! You can't be there!"
By this point, young Rick Jones realized his mistake driving onto the military facility. He raced toward the figure of Bruce Banner, desperate to reach safety from whatever was about to go off.
"What's going- Oof!" Banner quickly pushed Jones into the tent before the kid could say another word. Another second and that kid could've been-
Bruce Banner didn't even have time to finish the thought. The gamma bomb went off and pain coursed through his body.

It was a miracle, said the doctors. By all accounts, Bruce Banner should be dead. Yet he managed to escape the blast with only a few injuries.
Rick Jones was, of course, interrogated for hours and issued a fine of $1,000 for his behavior. For his part, he was all too willing to pay.
"Hey, uh, can I give you a ride home?"
Bruce raised an eyebrow at the teen. He'd usually get a ride from a coworker before reaching the bus stop, but he hadn't expected Rick Jones to offer a hand.
"You don't need to worry about that, Rick. I'm alright."
The teen rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly. "Feels like I owe you after all that."
He wasn't a bad kid, really. Just one that made big mistakes. "No one died, so there was no harm done. You just need to be more careful in the future. Get some rest."
Rick nodded hesitantly. "You too man"
Bruce had to admit, sleep was exactly what he wanted after today. Before long, he had reached home and crashed into his bed without any trouble.
Little did Bruce Banner expect to encounter an unusual predicament! The gamma radiation coursing through his veins were beginning the first of many strange alterations that Bruce Banner would experience.
