Your finger hovered over the button on the remote. Nina raised an eyebrow, actually having to twist her neck to the side to face Leslie.
“I know this may sound unusual, but I really want to learn more about life on Earth. This is an unprecedented opportunity: to make contact with a sentient alien race.” Explained Leslie. “Think of what we can learn from each other! How our ways of life differ. How your thinkers of science will benefit from such a discovery. This accident is too important to remain just an accident, for both of our civilizations.”
“She makes a good point Farley,” Nina nodded her head. “Do you think you could wait a while before restoring us back to normal? Assuming that you can fix this, of course…” Her voice trailed off, as the three of you glared at the head swapper. It appeared to be fine; the sensors hummed away and all the lights functioned as they should. The remote was working just as calculations indicated.
“Sure, why not?” You said. “As long as you’re here, Leslie, you will be our guest. Our home is your home.” The Czeultian simply looked around and replied, “Thank you.”
The three of you had been standing in the garage, which is where your workbench and gadgets were located. This was where your creation began. You spent many sleepless nights in the garage, laboring meticulously, crafting designs, and running computer programs for a device that could swap two peoples’ heads. You had pondered about how such a device would have a scientific (or self-interested!) use. You pondered whether or not you should keep such an invention a secret. But this test with Nina shattered any remaining presuppositions you had about theory and jettisoned you headlong into real application. An alien! Your wife’s head now resided on the body of an alien!
“This is incredible…” You muttered to yourself.
Nina was still shorter than you, but with the Czeultian’s body under her head she gained a few inches in height. Her neck made a seamless transition and faded from white to light green. Together, Leslie and Nina shared two arms and two legs… if they could be called arms and legs. The arms extended from the torso and seemed to be wrapped in leaf-like sheathes. The arms swayed limply as Nina and Leslie moved about. At the ends of each arm were appendages that looked like green claws. Unlike human beings, the Czeultian did not have joints or wrists, everything flowing together rather than relying on sockets or ligaments. The torso was covered with leaf-like scales. To suggest that the scales looked like those of a crocodile or fish would be incorrect, but they were ridges carved evenly into the body where leaves of some sort protruded. The body was lean and had no sign of breasts.
The legs of the Czeultian looked like thick stalks of support. These were also light green in color and appeared in similar proportion to that of human legs. As Nina and Leslie moved around, the legs seemed to glide over the floor… they did not “walk”. The creature was bipedal, just like humans, using legs for moving and arms for using objects in the environment. Leslie’s skin color was light green as well, but her hair was a darker shade of green. The hair, for lack of a human counterpart, was thin, straight, and wafted in the breeze. Perhaps most similar to humans were Leslie’s eyes. They were bright and had piercing olive-colored irises. If such eyes belonged to a human, they would be quite attractive. Leslie had a small indent for a nose and a lip-like crease for a mouth.
These and more were the immediate observations you made, following Leslie and Nina as they ambulated through the house.
