The fact that Matt wasn't faking it by having visible signs of electrocution was enough to convince you that opening this book would be bad for your health. Silently, you picked up the book and took it to dad. He was alone in the den, watching tv.
"Yes, sweetie" dad said as he noticed your approach.
"I found this weird book. I showed Matt it, but it zapped him badly as he tried to open it" you said, not wanting to say your youngest brother got electrocuted by a book. Dad would never believe you. Surprisingly, he focused his full attention onto you the second you said 'weird book'. It was highly unnerving.
"Matt got a severe electric shock? Did he manage to open it?" dad asked, concerned.
"No. I don't think he wants to touch it again, though. How did you know? What is this thing?" you asked.
Dad visibly relaxed upon hearing that Matt didn't see anything, but tensed up almost immediately afterwards. "Did you manage to see anything?"
"No, but I felt like reading it. I-it's weird. What is going on, daddy?" you asked.
"You've set in motion something that has to be stopped. I know it's cryptic, and probably a little creepy, but trust me, you do not want to know" dad said.
"What is going on? Daddy, I'm nearly 13" you said.
