You woke up to Mat's screams

Early that morning, you were wrenched from your sleep by a terrified high shrilled scream. Not knowing what was going on, you jumped out of bed and ran from your room to hear the scream again, it was coming from Mat's room. Fearing your little brother was somehow hurt, you hurried into the room. Only you found a small girl in Mat's night clothes, sitting on the floor crying her eyes out. "Who are you?" surprised to see the girl, you asked.

The girl cried more, looking at you. "Don't tease me, sis!" bawling, she said. "It's me, Mat!"

"What!?!" stunned, you asked.

"Please, Jessica!" distraught, the girl said. "I'm sorry I teased you about that chaotic science book!"

Your eyes widened as your face turned pale, realizing that the girl was really your brother. "Mat!? How did this happen!?"

"I'm not allowed to tell you." wailing, Mat replied. "Dad will be mad!"

"Dad?" surprised, you asked.

"You were warned to behave... young lady." entering the room, dad said. he then turned to you. "I guess you should know, I am a mad scientist. James is one as well, he left for a year of training." pausing, he added, "Tex and Mat will be mad scientists as well, when the time is right."

"You are all mad scientists?" feeling a twinge of fear, I asked.

Dad nodded. "Unfortunately, only boys can use and control this power." he said. "I'm sorry. I thought that changing Mat rather than you would lessen the blow."

For a moment, you said nothing but then you...
