“Mom and dad are going to be out of town for a few months, so I’m going to spend a lot of time at the Joneses’ house. Mrs. Jones never cared for the way my parents are always on my back about overeating. In fact, she told me the other day she thinks I should really gain some weight. I’m not entirely sure what that’s about, but she said any time I want to come over, she’s not going to let me leave until I’ve eaten all I can hold, and that sounds just fine to me. I’m going to spend as much time over there as I can.”
Katie shook her head, flabbergasted. “Good God, Evan. I know the Joneses. They order about twenty pizzas from us a week. If Mrs. Jones is going to bring you over specifically to fatten you up, you’re going to be seeing a lot of me….and I’m going to be seeing a lot more of you.”
Evan’s mouth watered at the thought…Did they really eat twenty pizzas a week there? That’s five whole pizzas for each of them. Maybe even more for the kids, since Karen didn’t seem to be quite as gluttonous. And that’s just how much pizza they ate! Who knows how many burgers, hot dogs and other delicious junk foods they went through in a week? Katie was right; Evan would almost certainly blow up like a balloon eating like that, but the pure bliss of gorging on an endless buffet was well worth that particular cost.
“You should be happy, then. Come next week, you’re going to be sending 30 pizzas to their house every week. “
Katie blinked at him, bewildered. “You are one weird kid, you know that? If my boyfriend loved me half as much as you love food, we’d be on our honeymoon by now.”
Evan winked, taking the heavy armload of pizza boxes from her. “What can I say? I’m loyal to my first love, and I always try to make as much room in my life for it.”
She rolled her eyes, tucked the money into her pouch, and walked back to her car. “Goodnight, Evan. Enjoy your weird binging session.”
Evan carefully shut the door, sneaking as quietly as he could back to his room with about twelve pounds of pizza in his arms. Finally reaching the safety of his room, he pried open the first box with about as much eager anticipation as a pirate opening a treasure chest.
“This isn’t a binging session,” he thought to himself. “This is the smallest meal I’ll eat for a very long time.”
