One day after school Claire arrived home. She walked into the modest suburban home to find a gathering in the kitchen. "Granny!" Claire shouted at the sight of her grandmother. "What are you doing here?" Claire asked.
Before the old woman had time to answer Jen jumped in. "Well your grandmother is going to be staying with us for awhile."
"Is something wrong Grandma?" Claire asked, a tinge of concern in her voice.
"Ha-ha no darling, can't a Grandmother just want to spend some time with her favorite granddaughter?" Her grandma finally answered for herself. Claire ran over and gave her grandmother a big hug.
"Gran gran I'm your only granddaughter." They all laughed. The rest of the night they got gammy situated and they all talked the night away.
The next morning Claire awoke, ready for another day of school. Grandma was stationed in the kitchen when Claire made her way down stairs. "Take a seat dear, breakfast is just about ready." Claire complied, she was already obedient when it came to her grandmother.
"What are we having?" Claire asked as she tried to spy the stove top to see what was cooking.
"A traditional homemade breakfast, you're going to love it." Claire's mother's side was originally swedish, and her grandmother had carried with her a lot of their old family recipes. They were hearty rich family meals for the hard working farmers and herdsmen of the country side, but equally tasty for the suburban American teenager.
Claire ate her fill, having anything that grandma put on her plate, then sat of for school taking a lunch her grandmother had made for her.
