Chapter #3

Say no

    by: Immaturity Author IconMail Icon
"No." you shake your head. "I don't want to go to boarding school."

"You see." Your mother puts her arms around you protectively. "Don't worry Daniel. We won't force you to go to boarding school."

"Fine." your father says, clearly disappointed. "So what are you going to do with him?"

"We don't need to make a decision just yet." your mother replies. "We can look into the options. I'll find out about home schooling and get in touch with Susan and find out if Daniel can stay with her."

"So which boarding school are you going to?" Your friend Mark asks you a few days later.

"Um..." you are embarrassed to admit that you were too afraid to go to a boarding school. "I'm not going to a boarding school."

"Lucky." Tony, another friend, replies. "So what are you going to do?"

"I don't know." you say. "Mom says she might home school me."

"That would be great." Mark says clearly envious. "No uniforms and you'd be able to play video games at lunch time."

"Yeah." you say. "But everyone else is going away. There'd be nobody else my age left in town."

"Nah." Tony says. "I hear that Julie is staying too."

"Oooooh" Mark teases you. "You'd have her all to yourself."

"Shutup." you say, punching him in the arm. "Is anyone else staying?" you ask, hoping to move the discussion away from your crush on Julie.

"I heard that no boarding schools would let Kevin in." Mark says. "So he has to be home schooled." Kevin is the school bully, you've never really been his main target but that might change next year if there isn't anyone else left in town to pick on.

Later in that same week your mother announces during dinner. "I spoke with my friend Susan and she's happy to have Daniel come stay with her... and there's a public school in walking distance from her house."

"Does she have any kids?" you ask.

"Yes. Two girls." Your mother says. "Felicity is your age. She's starting middle school next year too.and Sarah is 5."

"Oh." you say, you'd been hoping there'd be another boy.

"Should I tell her that you're coming?" Your mother asks.

You have the following choices:

1. Move in with your mother's friend

2. Stay and be home schooled
