Administration is your favourite part of the job and something you don't get to enjoy nearly enough. Jacking directly into the servers grants you admin status and privileges, manifesting as the ability to rework almost aspect of the sims while inside them. Usually the purpose is to enhance the game-playing experience by tweaking the challenge or inserting fun twists, but there is also a significant amount of bug fixing. Bugs and glitches are just as common in sims as they are in non-VR games but the potential consequences are obviously much more severe, doubly so when the minds of the players are fully inserted as data files, as in the case of your parents. While getting stuck in a glitchy wall can be traumatic for a wired-in player, any damage to a downloaded player's data could have terrible consequences, rendering them mutilated or insane, or deleting them entirely.
Especially if their mental patterns are affected, they can become confused or psychotic, unable to access their memories of the real world, fully believing the reality they're in. It can turn them into mindless vegetables (sometimes literally). By law, any downloaded player with significantly data corruption cannot be returned to a real world human body, as their behaviour may be dangerously unpredictable. That's why you have the computer automatically make back-up copies of your parents' data every week. Fortunately nothing has happened yet that would require a reset.
