Hookfang woke with a languid stretch, taking the chance to rub against Snotlout marking him with his musk. Marking him as friendly, Snotlout stretched his wings once more, realising he'd have to fly back himself... as himself, rather than riding Hookfang.
As Astrid returned to mount Stormfly, the nadder gave Snotlout a warning glare.
Snotlout knew where he stood as a human. That basically the nadder knew who he was, a companion. But in this form, he wasn't sure how familiar he could be with them.
A kick of Astrid's heels against Stormfly's flank, and the nadder bounded a couple of steps before leaping into the air with a powerful swoop of her wings. As they started to climb Astrid looked over her shoulder to see if the two monstrous nightmares would follow.
She was half-sure that Hookfang would follow her, but had no idea if the wild dragon would follow at all. As she turned back to see where she was flying, she thought she saw the unknown dragon give her a wink.
Dismissing it, as a mistake or an illusion, she settled down to let Stormfly take her back to Berk. It was an easy journey, and she just relaxed trusting her to manage without too much interference.
Snotlout found new instincts rise up, as he stretched his wings wide. A couple of cautious flap, grazed the grass and gave him an idea how much lift he could expect. Like Stormfly a couple of stomping, bounding steps, and he took to the air. Behind him he heard the sound of Hookfang rise up to follow him. Keeping a watchful eye on the newest flier.
