Chapter #3Inside the Bandit Camp by: LGV To you, the signs are clear. Discarded flagons of ale, still moist with recently drunken alcohol. Piles of trash and other debris sat beside them, lazily strew about beside the cave entrance. Trees nearby were etched with the scars of sword scratches. There was no mistaking it; these were bandits. Fearsome ones, too, if the peasants were to be believed. Even with your powerful gastromancy, you can't help but feel a lingering sense of fear. You had never entered actual combat before, much less against a group of experienced fighters.
Nevertheless, you steel your resolve and silently slip into the cave. Lustria would never let you live it down if you returned to her for help. In addition, she would most likely delay your training ever further than she had already had. Turning back is not an option.
As you make your way through the dark, damp hole, you began to notice more and more signs of life. More trash, more debris, and to your shock, blood. You become a bit more shaken, realizing that if you're not careful that could very well be your own sanguine stain. Before you can examine further, however, your alert ears catch the sound of jovial laughter not far from your position. Continuing on, you eventually reach a larger part of the cavern. Inside, you see about three bandits, huddled around a fire. They are large brutes, composed of two humans and an orc.
Caught up in their own discussion, none of them notice as you slip into the room and take shelter behind a towering pile of crates. Now safe for the moment, you begin to formulate a plan on how to deal with the murderous scum. Had you been the masterful Lustria, it would have been simple; You would start by jumping out and casting a daze spell on the group, freezing them just long enough to send the orc down your gullet. Then, just as it wore off and the other two began to charge, you would hit one of them with a shrink spell and counter the remaining one. He would be taken off guard, too surprised to act as you easily swallowed him as well. Your bloated belly now stuffed to the brim, you would casually approach the inch-tall remainder and decided his fate. In the end, he would either wind up smashed beneath your heel or receive a one way trip up your backside.
Of course, you are not Lustria. You do not posses the skills to take all three on at once. You are going to have to be crafty to take care of these worms. It is then that you notice something promising. Across the room, sitting beside the orc was a glass jar. Inside this jar sat a small pixie. Pixies, the little beings of magic they are, are a coveted race. For most, they are captured due to their reputation as horny little things, willing to suck off any race for freedom. To a gastromancer like you, though, they area a quick power boost. Swallow (or chew) one down and their magical energies would temporarily become yours, boosting your base skill level.
It was tempting, but again, it sits right beside the orc. Do you risk using a levitate spell to bring it towards you or did you instead try to take them out one by one? indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
