You dial Stephanie's number and hold the phone yo your ear. After the third ring you begin to doubt that she will answer but she finally picks up. "Hello?" she says in a sleepy voice.
"Stephanie." you say. "It's Danielle."
"Oh." in that one syllable you can hear her wake up; and remember last night.
"I'm really sorry." you say. "Please. I'll do anything to make it up to you."
"I need time to think." she tells you. "I'll call you later." With that she hangs up.
A few agonising hours later she finally calls back. "Hello." you answer the phone breathlessly. "Stephanie?"
"Hello Danielle." she sounds less angry, that must be a good sign. "I've decided that you need to be punished."
"Punished?" you ask. "What do you mean?"
"You'll find out soon." she says. "But if you don't accept your punishment then I'm breaking up with you."
"I'll do anything." you repeat your promise from the previous call.
"We'll see." she says. "I'll be there to pick you up in half an hour."
As promised, she arrives at your house almost half an hour later. You tell your mother than you're going out and get into the passenger seat.
