Ish Mosop smiled as she put down the phone. America had been good to her. So much better then her life in Sudan. There she was property, she had escaped a forced marriage at 14, being smuggled out of the country by a British reporter that was interviewing women over there about their lack of rights. At the time she had been illiterate, but she proved to be bright. By 22 she graduated Oxford with honors.
At 30 she had emigrated to the U.S. as an accomplished professor. She was short and bottom heavy, but very, very witty, and well read, making many men interested in her, even a few women. But she did not want a physical relationship. This was because in the backwards village she was raised in, Ish had undergone infibulation. It was preformed by an elder woman of the village, under very primitive conditions. It was there that Ima had been castrated. When the old woman removed her labia and clitoris with an old kitchen knife, Ish bit part of her tongue off from the pain. Afterwords her legs were bound for over a month while she healed. There was only a small opening to allow her to pee or bleed during her period. If she was ever to have sex, she would like so many other women in the middle east, need to be cut open. Even then, she had nothing inside to ever enjoy sex.
She was very embarrassed by this. None of her America friends could understand what she was going through. Periods were more uncomfortable, almost unbearable. She was glad she had a lot of body hair to hid her mutilation. She was willing to do anything to be normal again. Now with the call from Judge Ballbuster, she could be whole again. Being a man would be strange, but at least she would be normal. She jumped in her Cadillac, glad she could afford to pay the required fee for the exchange permit.
