Ken woke up in the protective suspension fluid. It was a strange sensation before, but now it was downright weird. He felt very odd for some reason, but the fogginess of his mind and the mask covering his face made things hard to read. At any rate, they must have arrived in orbit since he was being revived now. The fluid slowly drained, and it only felt more and more strange to Ken. Finally, the capsule opened. Ken could feel the cool air of the ship wash over his body. It gave him a slight chill, and oddly enough, it made his nipples go rock hard.
An older man was next to him. As Ken looked at him, he was frowning, "Hello. If you recognize me, just nod. You are still weak from the suspension." Ken nodded. The captain continued, "You are okay. The bio-scans say you are in perfect physical condition, so do not panic over what I am about to tell you." Ken did not like the sound of that, but he waited as the captain went on. "While we were traveling, there was an emergency. A group of scientists who did not want humans to, in their view, pollute the universe, planted a virus in the suspension fluid of the females on the trip. By the time we realized there was a problem and I was taken out of suspension, it was too late to do anything for them."
He used his hands to hold Ken down as he continued, "We were not able to save any of them, but we were able to save the DNA of half of them. With the guidance of the computer, and some pre-planning that we thought we would never need, we were able to use their DNA to build a retro-virus to rewrite the DNA of some of the males. It worked, and we still have enough of a gene pool to grow a healthy colony here."
He paused, then he added, "We used a random selection to determine which males would be the ones who changed, then introduced the virus into their suspension fluid to initiate the change. The bad news is that you were one of the men chosen. The good news is that you are in perfect health, and should have no trouble having children when the time comes."
With that last statement, Ken's eyes went wide! One hand ripped off the mask. He heard a feminine sounding gasp as his other hand found his crotch, only to find it flat, and a thick bush of hair covering what could only be his new womanhood! Well, 'her' womanhood. She sat up weakly, feeling the weight on her chest as her breasts shifted. "How, how dare you do this to me? To any of us?" She gasped a bit as a wave of dizziness overcame her momentarily, "You had no right!"
The captain sighed as he handed Ken a towel, "Well, yes, we did. It was part of the contract you signed, under survival of the colony clause. We never expected this of course, but it was fully legal. In any case, it is not reversible. You could not survive a second exposure, and your system is now immune to the virus. And just to be sure, we did not preserve your old DNA." He grinned, "On the bright side, you are the prettiest girl to have revived so far. Whoever gets mated to you will be a lucky man."
Ken remembered the terms. There was no time for various mating rituals. Part of the contract was that your mate would be selected at random within your professional group. Ken had not balked at this since she had hoped to get a pretty wife, not BE a pretty wife! "I won't do it! I will not mate with some strange man!"
The captain chuckled, "Well, you might be surprised when the time comes." He handed Ken one of the unisex uniforms that looked tiny to Ken, but must have been her size now. "In any case, you might want to think about your new name while you get washed up and dressed." He grinned, "You don't look like a 'Ken' anymore." He stood up and said, "I have many more colonists to wake up. When you are cleaned up, report to briefing room X45. We need you to get some of the de-orbiting systems started." As Ken stood up, she realized that the captain now towered over her. She did not know what to say as the captain walked away.
She felt like she was half alien now as she walked to the nearby bathroom. When she got inside she saw a full length mirror and gasped as she saw herself for the first time. There stood
