Julia giggled before playfully bopping you on the nose, "Guess who?" she whispered in her normal voice, making it more apparent what she had just done.
You look at her, stunned silent and wide eyed, as she gets up and shifts back into her original appearance as she turns to face you. "I...I... should have figured that out sooner." You say, defeated, it was all that you could think to say.
"Oh, don't look so down. I understand as a growing boy, an attractive young woman just coming into your room and getting close is certainly appealing and besides, you were thinking up some pretty cool ideas a moment ago." She posed confidently pointing towards his notes.
"What the one about possessing machines?"
"Yeah! Nothing says a poltergeist than possessing objects to mess around with." Julia excitedly bounced around as she considered the possibilities in her head until a flash of inspiration came to mind. "Hey, start up one of your video games."
You gave a sigh as you a vague idea of what she was planning, "Fine, anything in particular?" You asked as you made your way to your game library.
She thought for moment before responding, "Something on the darker side and that you wouldn't mind having some messed up game data."
You thanked her in the back of your mind that she was being considerate enough of the possible consequences. You pulled out an old 360 copy of Halo 3. You had recently bought the Master Chief collection so you felt that this version would be a good test. You set the disk in the tray and booted it up. Julia was still bouncing around in anticipation as the game started up. Once you were at the menus," Alright, it's ready."
"Perfect, now start up the story. I'll jump in now." Julia commanded as she turned incorporeal and moved into the console. The screen flickered for a brief moment before turning back to normal. You started up the campaign and the screen flickered a couple more times as the opening cinematic played out. However, once the in game cut-scene began to play, you immediately saw what was happening, a strange imprint of what looked like Julia was moving about the game space. Objects and characters on screen flickered and contorted themselves as she moved around, the game was clearly having difficulty rendering with her around. As the cut-scene was coming to an end, Julia left the screen and the game stabilized but it did not remain as it once did.
The Master Chief's character model had been completely reconfigured. Replaced with a female character model whose armor now resembled a bikini, with the bits of tech lights on his suit refashioned into some obscure sci-fi jewelry. Random tree models had been replaced with different objects like concrete and traffic cones and several of the marines had been resized or had their resolution down-scaled for seemingly no reason. As the gameplay started, you noticed that he also moved differently. His rig must have been replaced with something much more complicated as movement felt more fluid and camera control made it easy to get a view of the character model, minus the head of course.
Julia popped out of the console with a smile on her face. "I'm surprised that you could do all this." You remarked as you tried to figure out the little nuances of the controls. "Are even familiar with any of this stuff?"
"No, but once I got in there, everything sort of clicked with me, you know? I just knew how to manipulate the data in there. Oh, I also added a 3rd person mode, press both sticks." She explained, all with that typical smile of hers.
You did just that and sure enough you now operated the game from 3rd person, getting a better look at how the new Master chief moves. "If you can do this kind of stuff, I wonder what else you could do?" You remark absentmindedly as you continue to try out the game.
