The clerk in the shop was a coffee shade gypsy in a flowing white shirt. He looked up and down and snakes out his tongue to wet his parched lips.
Socal sighed. "Hey, Cam."
Cam came out with a big smile, his both hands spread out in the gesture of warm welcome. "Hullo, Handsome. After a long, long time. But you look hot as ever."
Socal shuffled on his feet in discomfort and mentally told her wife, "See, how much I have to suffer for your sake."
He turned towards the roses. They were shining in the recently splattered water-droplets, as if hoping to attract more customers with their dewy freshness. He found seven perfect buds of flowers from the crowd of flowers-- a white, yellow, red, orange, peach, pale pink, and at the last, he picked up an orchid.
Many other customers have entered and left the shop while he was deliberating over that perfect bud. He could feel their gaze raking him up and down and their laughter swirling around him. But he did not care. He would not sacrifice his wife's surprise because a bunch of kids who thought him too old for Valentine's day.
"Cam," he shouted as another kid looked at him.
"One moment, Handsome." His voice floated from around a small group hammering him for flowers.
Tapping his foot, he took out the cards he had already prepared and placed on each flower. A secret smile blossomed his face as he envisioned everything happening after that.
"The lady is going to get lucky tonight," Cam said as he passed him.
"I want these flowers delivered one at a time. The chits have the number on them and these are the letters with the numbers. You need to send them to my home in that sequence."
Cam's bushy eyebrows rose up. "You know handsome, I used to think that you have grown old and have lost your touch but I guess I was wrong. "
"Make sure they go in the sequence, else everything would be ruined. Start with the white flower first." He instructed once more, making the payment to Cam.
Cam winked.
Whistling he moved out to wait for his wife's reaction, once she receives his message. "Happy Valentine's Day," Cam's shout floated back to him.
