Anne had walked into the kitchen when she got back, intending to head straight to the garden where she suspected Sarah might still be dozing, but had stopped in her tracks when she saw a dirty trail of footprints marking the floor. She then noticed the discarded ankle socks, and started to piece together what happened. Her plan to have Sarah barefoot had worked but not in the way she expected. She knew she could use this though, and grabbed the socks.
Sarah introduced Emma and Anne, who had never met, and while she did her mind was working frantically. “Sorry Emma, but I need to speak to Sarah about something.... what are these?” And she held out the dirty socks” Sarah flustered a little, with the excitement of Emma coming over she had forgotten to tidy up, and she was now conscious of her naked feet. “Sorry, my socks.... I took them off” “I can see that, and then you left them with a trail of mud, which you’re going to come clean up” and after a pause Anne added “And seeing as you can’t be trusted with socks, I’m banning them until further notice” “What? What do you mean banning them?” “I mean...” Anne replied in the sternest voice she could muster “”Socks are banned in this house until I say different. I don’t wear them and now you won’t either” Before Sarah could respond, Anne continued. “That also means you, Emma, please give me your socks, and i’ll Keep them until you leave”
Emma didnt hesitate, reaching to pull of her ankle socks then handing both to Anne. “Here you go” Emma flexed her toes. She wasn’t bothered at all. Emma liked being barefoot and didn’t often wear socks at home. She had only put them on because Sarah didn’t seem to like bare feet. Anne demanded Sarah come downstairs and clean the mess, and the two left Emma alone.
