Sarah awok alone. She figured she must have been asleep an hour or two. Anne didn't appear to be around, and the garden had been tidied. Her empty glass was gone, as we're her shoes, which she must have kicked off at some point. Sarah got up and headed back inside. The ground underfoot was a little wet and squishy, and she felt the mud oozing through her socks.
Stepping inside onto the wooden floor of the kitchen, Sarah spotted a note on the table. 'Gone on errands. Back around 1. A x' Sarah checked the time and saw she had an hour of freedom. She was about to head upstairs when she stopped herself. She still had her dirty, wet socks on and the upstairs was carpeted. "I best take them off" she thought. Sarah would have been nervous to go barefoot normally, even at home. But no one was around and her socks were uncomfortable. Without further thought, Sarah peeled off her wet socks and discarded them. Then headed upstairs to her room. Without the socks Sarah felt much more comfortable and she enjoyed the feel of the plush carpet against her soft soles. Sarah reached her room and flopped on the bed, deciding to call Emma, her best friend.
