Something gives Aria the ability to steal muscl...

Sometimes a series of events leads to a completely unexpected outcome. In this case, the events could be traced by Aria back to a single individual - Sheppard.

First, he had arrived on her station and aided Mordin Solus in curing a plague released by the Collectors - a plague to attacked the DNA of all non-human, and non-Vorcha exposed. This included one very interesting Asari that had come aboard Aria's station. The plague would have killed her were it not for Solus's cure - and instead it remained in her blood - dormant and mutated by both the cure and the unusual physiology of the Asari herself.

Sheppard later returned to Omega to find that very Asari - an Ardat-Yakshi named Morinth - and in the end, he killed her with the help of her mother Samara. Their ambush of Morinth meant that the Asari had been forced to go straight from the height of her seduction to combat - flooding her body with a very unusual mix of Asari hormones and enzymes - all of them mutated by her Ardat-Yakshi nature. These interacted with the dead and dormant virus mutating it further - bringing it to life but thoroughly changed. It had absorbed the nature of an Ardat-Yakshi into itself thanks to the particular genetic engineering of the collectors and the experimental cure provided by the Salarian.

And the next person to come into direct contact with that body...

Aria had the corpse brought to her - no one had touched it or examined it. She wanted to look at this Ardat-Yaksi - in all her life she hadn't seen one that she was certain of.

When her skin brushed the skin of Morinth, the virus - no longer able to travel airborne after it's mutation, transferred into her body. It couldn't long survive in a host without the strange chemical concoction that had given it new life, but, as such things are want to do - it attempted to make it's host compatible in the brief time it lived.

After her examination of Morinth was complete, Aria had the corpse burned, vaporized and ejected into space - just to ensure no contamination.

Within 24 hours the last traces of the virus in her own system were destroyed - but they had transformed Aria - into something akin to an Ardat-Yakshi. Her body would drain anyone she engaged in amorous activity with - of not just their life energy, but thanks to the virus, of everything the virus was designed to destroy - muscular strength, bone density, internal organ resilience.
