Chapter #14

Amelia... a mentor?

David's POV

Amelia looked as if she was about to become sick when Mark accepted her offer for help and she was not the only one. Sarah glared at Amelia, her hands flat on the table as if she was ready to jump on top of it and attack Amelia head on. Fortunately, she kept her cool. "You better get this right." softly, she hissed. "I don't want my brother getting even more depressed than he already is."

"Don't worry." placing a hand onto Amelia's shoulder, dad said. "Amelia will turn Mark into a social bug in no time." he then slightly tightened his grip, just enough to get her attention as he asked, "Right, honey?"

"Oh, sure... no problem." forcing a smile, Amelia said. "I can get started this weekend."

"The weekend is two days away." curious, I pointed out. "Why start then?"

Amelia gave me a glare then forced another smile. "Well, I do need some time to prepare." recovering quickly, she said. "If Mark was a girl, I would already be dragging her to my room." she paused then quickly added, "You can't just jump into these things, you know."

"How can I start?" looking at Amelia, Mark asked.

As Amelia paused to think of a response, I could not help feel sorry for Mark. I really did not socialize with him as he rarely approached anyone to be sociable, he seemed to be more comfortable on his own. Had I known of his depressive state, I might have made an effort to reach him. "Maybe you can look at his wardrobe, see if there is anything there to work with." after a thought, I suggested. "Its possible his dress clothes are more fashionable."

"That's a good idea, Cassandra." smiling, Amelia said. "I'd ask you to join me but, well..." she pointed to Casandra. "Look at your taste in clothes before your 'identity crisis'."

I huffed, trying to control myself as Cassandra did the same. Only Mark looked at us and asked, "What's wrong with their clothes? They look fine to me."

"Oh, Mark." standing up, Amelia said. "How little you understand." she motioned to Cassandra. "David's colors do not match in the slightest, he looks like he was attacked by the dryer in the basement."

Sarah held back a reaction giggle, making it look like a sneeze as Cassandra threw Amelia a dagger like glance. "I will admit I will be tweaking my look but my style is just that, mine."

"You are welcome to it, dear brother." patting Cassandra on the head, Amelia fired back. "That and your tiny little circle of friends from school."

That angered Cassandra and myself and we were about to speak when dad cut us off. "Amelia, don't start anything." firmly, he warned. "You have already been told this once."

"Sorry, daddy." batting her eyes, Amelia said. "I guess I better go to Mark's home with him and look at his wardrobe so I know what I have to work with."

"Go on ahead, Amelia." nodding, mom said. "Just remember to behave over there."

"She'll behave." rolling up one sleeve, Sarah said. "I have no doubt about that."

"Sarah, no fights in my home." firmly, Maria said. she then turned to Amelia. "Young lady, if I see you starting a fight under my roof, you will wish your mother was passing the punishment instead of me, understand?"

Amelia turned to mom who gave a firm nod. "You have my full permission to discipline Amelia as you see fit if she misbehaves, Maria."

"Have fun over there." smiling, I said. "Keep us posted, okay?"

"Yeah, don't be afraid to ask for help, alright?" smiling as well, Cassandra added.

"Thank you for having us over, Elizabeth." hugging mom, Maria said. "I'll try to return Amelia in one piece."

Cassandra and I held back a snicker as Maria then led her children and a slightly pouting Amelia out the door...
