In fear and realization. What are you going to do?

Your heart begins to race so fast that you fear it might come out of your chest. Parting your lips you feel that a whimper is about to escape until you hear a sob coming from the right, a child's sob. No one pays mind to the child as he keeps on crying for his family and now you feel a slight obligation to protect the little guy.
Approaching the child you can see him curl into a little ball against a stone pillar as the screaming around him only makes him tremble.
"Hey" The boys head shifts, meaning he'd heard you but he still hasn't moved. You kneel down in front of him so now that you are in eye level with him if he poked his head up. "Look at me, am I scared?"
Gradually he pokes his head out and looks at you with wide and scared eyes. You repeat the question and he shakes his head. You help him up and tell him that you two need to make it to the next town before nightfall.
Just as you two are leaving for the next town, a woman tells you to stop causing the both of you two stop and turn to face her.
"It's not safe out there for him" She tells you and you agree.
"But who else is going to take care of him?" you ask.
Just as you finish your question two other kids poke out from behind her and she offers to take care of him to which you agree. Unfortunately this causes the kid to break into a sob and clutches your leg, you...
