Chapter #6

A Potions Shop

    by: Gator Author IconMail Icon
... potions, glass upon glass filled with strange liquids, and the exotic ingredients no doubt used in the creation of them.

"Potions!" The figure exclaims loudly and proudly. "Healing! Empowerment! Transformation! I've got them all! Take a look; see if there's anything you like! But don't touch; my... establishment will considered it purchased if you do! And feel free to ask if you have any questions.... about my wares. And only my wares, if you please." Then, as an afterthought, "Also, no haggling. The price stays the price."

You can't help but raise your eyebrow a little. You guess they most likely don't want any questions about their tent or their identity. It's got you quite curious now.

None the less, not wanting to potentially be thrown out, or worse, for asking, you keep your attention on the many different liquids and components lining the walls of the tent.

Both have small labels upon either them, in the case of potions, or the boxes containing them, in case of the ingredients. The labels for the ingredients have small writing in the same language as that on the sign outside on one side and a number on the other, while those on the potions have symbols in place of the writing. You guess that the writing is most likely the ingredients name, and that the number is the cost to purchase them.

Unable to read the writing on their labels, you decide to ignore the ingredients entirely and focus on the potions, whose simple symbols allow you to better discern their nature. The symbols vary from concoction to concoction; one, on a glass of a sparkling red liquid, is the symbol for health, leading you to believe it's a healing Potion, while another, on a glass of a glowing, bright yellow liquid, has a symbol of a human-figure seemingly running fast, making you think it's a Potion that will boost speed. Some show simplified images of animals, monsters, and even Monster Girls, such as one with the image of a Fairy. Where those the 'Transformation' potions?

You look over at the merchant, who is watching you like a hawk with their hands clasped together, and ask, "Gold coins, right?"

They nod. "Correct, young lad! I only accept gold coins."

You spare a worried glance down at your money pouch. A potion might indeed prove useful on your quest, but even the cheapest you could spot - the healing potion - is almost half the coin you have on your person. Buying one could very possibly mean not having enough to stay at an inn or to purchase a sword at the port.

"Do not feel pressured into making a purchase, lad." The merchant, sensing your mental crossroads, pipes up. "You do not have to purchase anything if you don't want to."

You ponder a few seconds longer. Then...

You have the following choices:

1. Buy a potion.

2. Don't buy anything and leave.

*Pen* indicates the next chapter needs to be written.
