Prom doesn't sound like it's going to be very fun if you an't go with your best friend. You spend your day moping around the house before your mother finally gets tired and tells you to go outside. You head to the mall and stay until closing time before finding a fast food restaurant. Several of your classmates were at the restaurant instead of going to a fancy restaurant.
You smile meekly as you hide in a booth. After you leave, you drive back to your house. You figure that might as well drown your sorrows with ice cream and a movie.
Graduation comes and goes, as does summer vacation. You quickly adjust to college life and your miserable Prom experience becomes a distant memory. You don't talk to Sarah any more after graduation and the two of you drift apart. At your ten years reunion you discover that she and Tommy have been married for eight years and have three children. You can at least be happy for her, but deep down you still harbor some resentment.
