"Hey, Steve!" You recognize the voice immediately as belonging to Lin, who lives a few doors down. "Do you know what yesterday's physics lesson was on? If you have your notes, do you want to come over and study?" It just dawns on you that Lin was absent from your physics class yesterday.
"Sure, Lin, just let me grab my notes and I'll be right over," you say, "By the way, why weren't you in class? Are you ok?" Lin wasn't the kind to miss class for no reason. She smiles and gets an odd gleam in her eye.
"I've been working on something cool. Oh, I just realized, I can show you when you come over!" Lin returns to her apartment as you go back home to retrieve your notes. On the way, you think it is strange that Lin is being so friendly to you. Not that she isn't normally sociable, but some days she won't even say hello to you. You quickly shake the thought however as you knock on Lin's door.
Lin opens the door promptly with one hand behind her back. You enter her apartment, which, unlike yours, is neat and free of clutter. As she shuts the door, you notice she is intentionally standing between you and the exit. At last, it gets too weird and you decide to speak up.
"What's going on, Lin?" you ask, to which Lin smiles a big, pretty grin.
"I'm going to show you my project!" she tells you, "And it's right here!" She pulls out a silver device with beeping lights and points it directly at you.
"Don't do anything you'll regret, Lin," you say as you back away. You're not sure what this device might do, but it could be a death ray or something, right? Lin giggles cutely before activating the machine with a high-pitched humming sound. A bright light surrounds you and you black out.
