just ordinary recipes, they're not even mag...

"Not magical, What? That book had a ton of weird looking spells and Magical things. Let me see that!"

Snatching the pages back Jake inspects them. When he previously looked at the book he could have sworn they had odd ingredients and incantations. Now he was just looking at a page that had a basic chocolate chip cookie recipe. The others were the same, only containing basic recipes for some cakes, cookies and a handful of other treats.

"These weren't like this before they..."

"Jake." His grampa interrupted, letting out a small sigh. "Your brashness and over excitement has clouded your judgement. You went in with no plan and came out thinking just a few pages from some cookbook would do. I know you're still new to this young one, but you must try harder rather then just trying to be impressive."

Lao Shi didn't even sound angry, just disappointed which made his words hit harder than usual. Jake knew he screwed up at times but he was so sure that the pages would help against The Baker.

"We shall meet here again another night and try again, this time I will go in. It is late I suggest you head home and rest."

Feeling dejected Jake being his flight home.


Waking up the next day Jake still felt depressed from last night and had stayed in bed through most of the day. It was Saturday so he had time to mope not having to worry about school. He just kept running what Gramps had said to him over and over. A soft knock on his bedroom door barely interrupted his thoughts, from behind it he heard his mother call.

"Jake, we're going to Haley's music recital. I know you had a late mission last night with your grandpa so I figured you wouldn't want to come. We'll be back late, see you later honey."

Hearing her footstep leave his door Jake looked over to the scraps of paper he had torn from the book. He felt them glare back at him from his side table and grew frustrated at them just knowing something wasn't right about them and the book. Grabbing them and looking them over trying to find something new about them, though again nothing about the pages seemed off. His frustration grew more until he decided to...
