Rika tosses in her bed with a sigh, unable to sleep. Yesterday had been abysmal. Her family had just moved here very recently, and so she was the new girl in school. To make matters worse, while she understands English almost perfectly... she's not very fluent in speaking it. And of course when she gets upset she reverts back to her native Japanese tongue, which results in being teased even harder. "Don't they know how hard it is to be able to speak a foreign language as fluently as a native speaker?" she mutters in Japanese.
Her pet bat Mizuru squeaks in response. Rika knows she should probably set her free in a day or so, her wing seems fully healed now and a bat isn't the most practical pet, but the girl can't bring herself to do it. The creature has effectively been her only friend, and the inspiration for a fun story involving a female anthropomorphic bat of the same name. If she were to let go of the real Mizuru now, she might not be able to continue her story.
However, Mizuru squeaks again, and Rika hears what she thinks the bat is trying to alert her to: someone's...playing with weird sparklers outside? At this hour? And close enough to her window for her to hear? She looks out her window, opening it and shining a flashlight into the darkness, but sees nothing... until the beam of light happens to fall over her family's mailbox. The flag is up, but the mail doesn't come until well into the morning.
"Well that settles it then, I got to check this out." Rika tells herself in Japanese. The 5'5" girl puts on a pair of slippers and grabs a purple hand/hammer toy from the shelf and sneaks out of her room and outside. She reaches the mailbox, greeted by the sticker letters spelling out Narumi, sighing slightly that her family has no relation to the Narumi characters from Kamen Rider W. Still, she opens the mailbox and finds an odd little package. Shrugging, she retrieves it and heads back inside. Back in her room, she examines the package, the letter attached in particular...
"To the one who will find this,
Here's a present, just for you
Coming right from the abyss,
May all your wishes come true!"
"The hell?!" she exclaims. Rika opens the package and finds a black and silver Dictaphone inside. Was it a toy? There's no battery cover or any discernible spot for a power source... not even a stamp saying made in China. Still, she can't help but want to try it before throwing it away... "Hopefully this thing understands me..." she mutters in Japanese and records in the same language, "I can speak English fluently." she stops and laughs at what seems impossible...
Her laughing stops when the same sparkler-like sound comes out of the device. "What was that about?" she asks, only to gasp as she realizes she had asked in English. "Oh my gosh! It worked!" Rika's so happy she almost runs out of her room to celebrate. What stops her is the memories flooding her mind. She's always excelled in her English speaking classes when she was learning the language, and was never teased about talking weird because she spoke the language almost flawlessly. That's when it dawns on her... "This thing changes reality itself... so something seemingly impossible is very much possible with this!"
The 16 year old looks down at herself. She's cute, but lacks the curves to draw much attention to herself. With this device, she could tower over buildings as a giantess curvy enough to call Vanessa Barnes flat! However, looking at the caged bat that has been the inspiration for her story character, she gets a better idea. She pulls up the reference sheet for the character Mizuru on her laptop, as well as a couple pictures she's posted of the real Mizuru. "Mizuru the character in the reference sheet, and the Mizuru in my bedroom are one and the same. We live together, and attend the same school." she records.
The sparkler sound is heard, and Mizuru squeaks loudly as changes she can't possibly understand begin in her tiny body. Her eyes change to an emerald green color and her mind changes, her bat instincts fading in favor of human-like intelligence. The rest of her body morphs into a close approximation of a human girl's, breasts and all, her wings disappearing into hands. The cage changes so the latch locking the door can be operated from either side, and she deftly uses her new hands to operate the mechanism and let herself out, growing all the while.
Rika watches in amazement as her little bat continues to become less and less little. The cage Mizuru just let herself out of grows and shifts with her to suit the growing creature that calls it home. Mizuru herself reaches Rika with a quickening pace thanks to her growth, coming to sit on the edge of the bed. "What?" Mizuru speaks for the first time, though she thinks she's been able to do so for a long time now. "A bit late for working on that story of yours, isn't it?"
"Eh, can't sleep..." Rika answers, still staring at the now 2'6" - 3'3" tall bat/human hybrid sitting on her bed. "Hey, what happened to your cage?!" she exclaims.
"Cage? Come now, I'm 4 feet tall. A 4'6" girl can have her own bed, right?" Mizuru replies, pointing a lengthening finger to the bed beside Rika's.
"R-right. Why would a 5'7" being even need a cage?" Rika says, noticing Mizuru has stopped growing. Her breasts are currently D-cup, making her decently busty, certainly more than Rika's own chest that only just fills a B. "So, did you see or hear anything a little earlier before I went outside with the Dogga Hammer?" she asks to change the subject.
"Something like a sparkler and the mailbox opening, but I didn't see anything." Mizuru replies with a shrug, fiddling with one of her black lace bra straps. "Did you find anything out there?"
"Yeah, but I think I'd rather talk about it in the morning. Think I can finally get some sleep now." Rika answers, and the two return to their respective beds. Rika's excited for all the changes she can possibly do, but she's not stupid enough to think the Dictaphone will never leave her for another user. So before falling asleep, she records one last thing. "This and the last recordings I've done with the Dictaphone will be cleared, but their effects are permanent." satisfied, she places the device by her nightstand and goes to sleep. If being able to speak English almost flawlessly and having Mizuru as she is now was all she could have, then she'd be damned if she lost them.
Still, she can't help but wonder why would anyone just give such a powerful thing to anyone who happens to stumble upon it, let alone who or what created it in the first place. indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
