Chapter #4Can't Follow Through by: GWriter You were so close, and it was the perfect moment, too. It was a great day, you and Applejack were all alone, yet for some reason you couldn't muster up the courage to just ask her out already. Finally giving up, you say:
"You know what, never mind," you say. "It's not important."
"If it wasn't so important, then why didja need the two of us to be alone?" the confused cowpony asks.
"I don't know," you say. You then try to change the subject. "Well, I'll be inside watching Applebloom while you get your work done. I don't want to hold you up."
"Um... okay," says AJ, and she walks away towards the orchard.
As soon as the mare is out of your sight, you literally kick yourself. "Aargh, I can't believe it!" you say angrily. "How could I be so stupid!?"
"You okay?" asks a little filly from behind you. You turn around to see Applebloom.
"You wouldn't understand," you tell her.
"Ah' understand perfectly," she says. "You have a crush on my sister, but yer too scared to tell her."
You look at her in disbelief. "How did you-"
"Are you kidding me?" ask Applebloom. "It's completely obvious! And ah' can't even tell ya how painful it was ta see ya try an' ask my sister out. Why do you think Ah'm always around when you two are together? Ah' wanted to see when you'd finally come clean."
"Well, as you just saw, I totally blew it," you say.
"Ya know what yer problem is?" the filly asks. "You're focusing more on asking her out and less on simply admitting your feelings. Baby steps, [your name]. Baby steps."
You can't believe that you're taking relationship advice from a middle school pony, but she has a point.
"You know what, Applebloom, you're right," you say. "Maybe you'll get your cutie mark in relationship counselling."
The filly's face brightens up. "Really? I've got to tell the other crusaders!"
"Yeah, well just don't mention my name or Applejack's," you say, and you run off in the direction that AJ went. You see her bucking some trees in the west orchard, and you call her name.
"Sugarcube, I'm kinda busy right now," she says.
"I know, but there's something I need to say first," you say.
AJ sighs, hoping that you wouldn't just say "never mind" for the third time in a row.
"Applejack," you say, "this is something that I've been wanting to say for almost a year now. I... I like you. I really like you. I mean, you were the first friend I made in Ponyville, and you're always there for me. I think you're a really beautiful mare and you mean so much to me. If you don't like me back, I understand. I just wanted to get this off my chest."
At the end of that whole spiel, you're breathing harder than normal. What does Applejack say. indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
