So far, this whole Island Challenge thing has been a breeze for you. Ever since you had gotten your trusty partner Pokémon from Professor Kukui, you had blown through one trial on Melemele Island after another. And now here you were on Akala, ready to complete your second step to becoming the first ever Alola Region Pokémon Champion. Nothing would stop you!
Expect perhaps, your sense of direction.
“Okay, I’m pretty sure I’ve passed that tree like three times by now…” You grumbled, glaring daggers up at the vindictive vegetation. You were supposed to be powering through the next Akala trial given to you by a girl named Mallow, but ever since you had entered this Lush Jungle, you had gotten completely turned around. Still, a good Pokémon trainer never gave up! There had to be some way out of here, and you would find it soon enough! You were planning on checking the map on your Pokédex…again…when a voice reached your ears.
“Stee! Steenee!” You glanced in the chipper voice’s direction to find a feminine pink, white and green Pokémon skipping through the tall grass. A steenee! You hadn’t caught one of those before! A smile appeared in your face. Catching a new Pokémon was just the kind of thing that would make you feel better.
“Litten, I choose you!” Your trust fire cat partner emerged from its ball ready for action.
“Lit!” It growled, shooting you a determined look. The steeenee was staring at the two of you in fear.
“Alright Litten, give it a taste of your Ember attack!” You commanded. Litten was glad to oblige, firing a barrage of embers from its own mouth.
“Stee! Stee! Stee!” The steenee yelped in fear, turning and running away. Litten’s ember attack missed your target by a hair, catching the nearby underbrush on fire and cutting off its exit. There was nowhere for your latest catch to run now. “Steenee! Steenee steenee steenee!” The Pokémon called out desperately.
“It’s calling for help.” You realized. “But we’ll beat it before help arrives. Litten! Ember attack again!”
“Litten!” One powerful fire attack and it was all over, the steenee lying flat in the ground, unconscious.
“Great job pal!” You told Litten. “Now let’s call it a day!” You tossed a Quick Ball in the steenee’s direction.
Halfway there, something knocked your pokeball aside.
It turned out Steenee’s call for help had reached someone after all. Emerging from the trees was another Pokémon. It looked a lot like steenee, but much taller and more confident, with mile long legs and a much wider “skirt”. It studied the unconscious sterner then turned to you.
“Tsareeena…” It let out a furious growl. The Pokémon’s overwhelming presence made you shiver, as did the death glare it was giving you and Litten. Boy, if looks could kill…
“Don’t…don’t give up Litten!” You told your partner with more confidence than you felt. “We can still win this! Okay buddy, use Growl to lower its-“
“Tsareena!” Before you had even finished your instruction, the towering grass Pokémon sprang forward with startling speed, bringing one of its feet down on Litten’s head in a devastating axe kick. Kitten dropped to the ground, KOed in a single move.
“No way…”. You breathed, watching your strongest ally get so effortlessly beaten. The Tsareena turned to you with a smug expression.
“Tsar, Tsareena.” It said, but you knew what it meant. “You’re next.” Before you could even draw your next pokeball, to retrieve Litten and throw out another, Tsareena’s foot cannoned into your stomach, knocking the wind out of your lungs. The Pokémon was definitely laughing as you dropped to your knees, Tsareeena raising her elf to deliver another axe kick.
The last thing you heard was Tsareena’s boisterous laughter before it’s foot connected with your head. Pain exploded behind your eyes and all went dark.
An unsure amount of time later, you awoke to find yourself back in the clearing where you had battled Steenee, then got manhandled by Tsareena, the back of your head still throbbing. At least, you thought it was. There was a giant wall of white blocking your view, like a snorlax’s belly. With cold horror you realized it was the Quick Ball Tsareena had kicked away. You had shrunk! No, that was impossible.
“I gotta be hallucinating…” you told yourself desperately as the tall grass rose like trees all around you, and the trees rose like skyscrapers beyond them. “I’m just…still reeling from the kick. I’m dreaming!” Despite your logic, the approaching footsteps that shook your world felt all too real. So did the shadow that fell over you as you looked up fearfully to meet it.
Who found you, shrunken and vulnerable? indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
