Chapter #14A Little Sister's Wish, Denied by: Nostrum The idea sounds tempting, but you’d rather prefer it was with Jessica. The real one, that is – not Katie posing as her, like she did before.
This whole ordeal began because Claire allowed Katie to wear Ashley, and she tried to seduce you in her body. Who knows what would’ve happened if you had your way with her? What if Jessica stepped in, saw you, and everything got ruined? But of course, that could be Claire trying to play you a horrible prank.
This is exactly what you were trying to avoid – using people to fool you, or others, and get away with whatever you want. What moved her to try it twice? The only way you can do so is by breaking her heart. “I can’t.”
“But why?” she whines.
“I just don’t feel comfortable thinking it’s you.”
“What!?” It almost feels like Jessica’s screeching at you. “You reject me because you can’t stop seeing me as Katie?”
“That’s the thing. You tried to fool me once, but I couldn’t because I love Jess.”
“And? She won’t know! It’s gonna be only once!”
“That’s what I’m afraid of. What tells me you won’t try it again?” Her silence proves her guilt. “Even if I agreed, whatever’s driving you to do this will make you--”
She pushes you with anger, and not even Nick’s toned body helps you resist. (You’ve got the muscles, but not the muscle memory.) “Why?” she says between tears. “Because she’s older? She’s just a year older than me, you asshole!”
“Year and a half, Katie.”
“Whatever! There’s no difference between us, David. Or is it because she’s blonde and... and pretty, and funny, and... Well – I can be funny! And I’m blonde and pretty now! So what’s your excuse, huh?” She slams your bare pecs, hissing. “You’re doing the same thing. You’re a hypocrite.”
“I didn’t agree with this. I did it because I wanted to stop you two from going mad.”
“Mad!?” She pummels your chest with a barrage of hammer fists, screeching. “You never gave me the chance. What makes you think I can’t be any more interesting than my sister!?”
“She’s more mature.” Just like back then, you annihilate her with her fatal flaw. “And part of maturity is accepting that life’s not always like you dream of.”
She’s trembling, angry and confused. “That’s not fair. I never had the chance.”
“I don’t think I ever had a chance with some of the girls that I liked. But I hit it with Jess, and I’m glad I did – because she’s exactly what I’m looking for on a girl.”
“But if you had the chance?” she desperately claims. “If you could turn into the guy those girls liked, would you do it?”
“Maybe then,” you admit, “but not now. If I didn’t do it with Ashley, what makes you think I’ll do it with someone else?” You put your hand on her shoulder, and she shakes it away. “Katie, Jess and I have been a couple for a year and a half. Claire and you are best friends.”
“If you accepted, we could’ve been sisters-in-law.”
“If I were to marry Jess, you’d still be.”
“But then, I’d be your sister. Not your girlfriend.” She clenches her teeth, yelping in pain. “Is that it? You see me as your little sister?”
“I think you hit it in the nail, Katie.”
“Yeah...” She calms down, but her eyes are lost. “Should’ve known. You’d have called me Kate otherwise.” She leaves, and deep within you, you’re pretty sure that she’ll do something she’ll regret.
You step outside, just as she’s about to clash with your sister. “Claire? Give me the pen.”
“Katie, I told you – David's not gonna--”
“If he’s not gonna do it, then... Maybe I’ll find someone else who does! Doesn’t have to be him. Only look like him.”
“Whoa, whoa, whoa...” Katie’s spooked as she hears you and grows more desperate.
“Claire, give me the fucking pen! I need to test if what I feel is just attraction to his looks or something else.”
“Katie?” Your sister falls back, making some space between them.
“Claire? It’ll be just once. You’ve never put on a man before, right? Well – you can put on your brother, and we’ll kill two birds with one stone!”
Your sister looks at you with Ashley’s green eyes, full of realization. “No. Katie, you’re my bestie and everything, but--”
“But what? You’re too much of a chicken to try it out!? You’re pathetic. You’re just like him – a fucking hypocrite. You always knew it, Claire. You know I love your brother.”
Whoa... That fell like a ton of bricks. “Since when?” you make the obvious follow-up.
“Since we got into high school,” Claire confesses. “We were already close, but once she started liking you, we got closer. Then we learned we like a lot of the same things and that sealed it.”
“See? I was interested in you before Jess even--”
“Katie, you’re two years behind. My relationship with Jess started later, but I was already keeping an eye on her.”
“Katie,” Claire says in a very mature tone. “David’s right. You’re taking this too far.”
“And what about you, eh?” Katie’s fury unleashed upon her best friend. “You’re no different than me. I bet you’d prance off to Scott with her tits!”
That was a low blow. (Also, a disappointment. What does Claire look for at a good-for-nothing like Scottie Kilmeade? He’s the opposite of her – a blond kid, always half-baked, always hitting on juniors and seniors like he’s the big deal.) “Don’t need to. S’not like he’s ignoring me. Besides – Allen's got the hots for you.”
“Yeah, but he’s not your brother.” Katie speaks of Allen Tennison, Scott’s friend and a down-to-earth guy – straight-A student, junior Debate club, and if he could get rid of his zits, he’d be good looking. (If Claire told you she was interested in him instead of Scottie, you wouldn’t mind.)
“No offense, but Allen’s better than David. He’s got a future.”
“But his zits! Eww!”
“Have you seen the little holes on his cheeks when he sees you?”
“Then why don’t you keep him!? Or better yet – if you say Allen’s better than David, then I’ll tell him to wear your brother! That way, he can fix him and I can be with the guy I like!”
“Katie, he might be a pain in the ass sometimes, but he’s my brother. I can’t let you do it.”
“But...” She points at you, screeching. “He’s wearing your older brother! What’s the difference!?”
“That I bet he’s not enjoying this, and your little tantrum’s making it worse. Davey’s right – you might not wanna admit it, but he’s worried about you.”
“I don’t want him to be worried about me,” she declares in her madness. “I want him to kiss me, and... And throw my arm into my shoulder, and bring me close, and... And even fuck me silly! I want him as my boyfriend – and that’s final!”
“Katie, I think it’s time for you to have a time-off.”
Her eyes grow wide, like a deer looking at headlights. Clenching her jaw, she leapt towards Claire, brawling. “Give me the pen, dammit! If he doesn’t want me, I’ll find someone who does – and I’ll make him the one I want!”
“Katie!” Claire grunts. “Stop it!”
In the fight, the pen blasts off from Ashley’s bosom, straight into you. Katie notices and lunges at you, but you avoid her and grab the pen. She hunches ferally, snarling at you. “David? Give it to me. And you better not do anything crazy!”
“I think the pen’s not yours,” you admit, handing it to Claire. “You need help, Katie.”
“Like I said,” your sister says while pointing the pen at her, “she needs a time-out.” Without hesitation, she shoots the pen, and Jessica’s body deflates with her little sister inside.
Claire’s not happy with her decision, however; she drops the pen on the floor and storms off to Ashley’s room. After a few minutes, you see your little sister in the flesh, dressed and disturbed.
“You were right, Davey. What should we do?”
--
You spend half an hour in silence after taking Nick off. His skin is on Ashley’s bed, alongside Ashley’s. Claire stripped Katie’s skin off Jessica’s, laying them on the sofa.
It’ll be hard to convince Katie to cut it off. She knows about the pens and who has it, and won’t stop until she achieves what she wants. Either by replacing Jessica or replacing you.
Claire looks at your girlfriend’s skin and sighs. “We gotta tell her.”
“She won’t be happy with you, y’know. Or me. I should’ve said no.”
“If you hadn’t, you wouldn’t have told me what was gonna happen. I thought this’d be harmless fun – like an extended Hallowe’en. Also, sorry for not telling you Katie had the hots for you.”
“Odd that I never noticed.”
“Of course she wouldn’t - you’re always with Jessica. To be honest, I told her to switch skins and let her be Ashley to test if you really liked Jess or if you only liked her body.”
“What the hell, Claire!?”
“I know, I know – that was stupid. Should’a figured the reason she wanted to be Jessica was because she wanted to be with you.” You see she’s at the verge of tears, wiping them out with the back of her hand. “She’s my bestie, Davey. I only want the best for her.”
You hug Claire, and she hugs you back. It’s weird, since you rarely want to touch each other. You shouldn’t stand each other. But you’re proud that she showed enough maturity and empathy, and you figure she deserves the pat on the back. “That’s really kind of you.”
“Yeah, well... She’s almost like a sister to me. Something I feel Tina can’t be.” She looks at Jessica’s skin again, then at Katie’s, then at you. “Got any ideas?”
There’s only one thing crossing your mind. Go slow with Jess, tell her about Katie’s feelings for you, and spook Katie. If someone wore her and did something she’d regret, she could understand why it’s so bad.
Maybe if Jessica wore her? That would be the ultimate turnaround. But then what? indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
