When I woke up I was still a bit dizzy from the sedation. My head was still spinning and I felt like I had the weirdest dream. It was something of me being inside the body of my own mother-in-law. That was just plain silly I imagined. I tried laughing a little when I noticed my voice sounded different than before. Just to make sure everything was alright I decided to visit the bathroom. Surely I just was in need of a glass of water. My throat was dry as sand. I climbed out of the bed, even though noticing my entire gravity was different. Still I imagined it as part of the sedative, when I turned the doorknob of the door I saw my hands were slimmer but I just waved that of as well.
Then I entered the bathroom and filled a glass of water for myself. After drinking the water I couldn't turn away from the unspeakable truth as I saw Marsha's face staring right at me. I felt disgusted looking at myself like that. It was like those doctors transplanted my brain into a monster. From all the people in the world, my own mother-in-law would be the one that would be home to my brain. Was this what she really would want? After Scott died I imagined she'd rather would let us both be dead. Instead she would live on in some way, while my live was completely gone.
"All because of you." I said pointing at the reflection in the mirror, my reflection now. And that was when it hit me. I was Marsha now. I had her life right in my hand. I could do anything with it, and nobody could stop me. "That's right, I'm Marsha Gates now and I'm going to do whatever I want with my body now." I said with a smile on my face. Something I never saw the old Marsha do.
