That felt great, but now I was starting to get a little worried…she was just one person; one person not paying as much attention to me as to her son. I was hurting a little (from the initial jump on the head), and had barely kept from moving. What would happen if there were more, and I were to involuntarily move? So far, both sets of people had jumped, and none of the sororities had been here yet…I consoled myself that the sororities were much lighter than Amanda and kept lying. I waited patiently, avoiding anything that would make me noticeable to the unsuspecting girls. Since I had told Joe that I wouldn’t be around, he did not bother to tell me that he was organizing a party with a group of friends from college. I learned that he had invited some girls over to party when they started flocking to our house.
As I lay there, I heard a group of girls coming towards the door. A streak of sweat was beginning to form on my face, partly due to the anxiety and fear of the girls’ reaction. I knew that their reaction would change depending on how scared they were. The more scared they were, the more they would try to prove to themselves that nothing was real by stepping harder on the bodies. When they came closer, I heard one of them shriek in fear; “What weird stuff is this? I hate Halloween! Why would someone do this?!” She ran back to the others and waited for the bravest to lead the way. Vivian was the bravest and she volunteered to lead the way. That was after she had poked and turned one of the “bodies” to ensure they were just dummies. Satisfied that that’s all they were, she went ahead to step on each of them as she came. I think they found much fun in doing so. The finally came to me and because I was so close to the door, not all of them could step on me. Vivian, standing on my groin rang the door and waited for Joe to open up. She was in high heeled shoes and I felt a sharp continuous pain on my groin, it was almost unbearable.
I started regretting the whole thought and wondered when Joe would open the door for the girls to go in. Joe took some time before answering the doorbell and Vivian shifted restlessly on my body, moving from my groin to my stomach, then to my chest. I just lay there, trying to suppress the urge to scream because I knew that any wrong move would probably scare the girls to death. Suddenly, one of the girls, Scarlet, developed an idea to pass time as they waited. She started stomping on the “bodies” and all the girls started doing the same, including my body. Just before I gave in, Joe opened the door and they all rushed in, stepping on me as they went through the door. I remember one of the girls cursing Joe, “Joe why the hell did you take so long to open the door? Did you hope that one of your dummies would wake up and scare us?” They laughed about it and she gave me one final kick before getting in. Joe even went ahead to step on my head to show them that these were just Halloween decorations and that he hadn’t planned for anything weird to happen.
I was so much relieved when the door closed and I even had thoughts of moving from my position or better still, disappearing in the darkness. But I thought of how scary it would be if anyone was to see me getting up and walking away. Just as I was contemplating on what to do, I heard another group coming. Now I was sure I couldn’t do anything much than lay still and hope for the best. I was starting to regret the whole idea and hoped that somehow, I would find a way to avoid all that pain. The other group of girls were not scared at all. In fact, they acted so natural around the dummies, as though they had expected them to be there. Most of them walked around the dummies without stepping on them and I must say I was a bit relieved. The girl who rang the bell stepped on my throat with her sharp high heeled shoes but immediately stepped back from the door, standing on the dummy next to me. This was what I had in mind when I planned all this, I expected a short sharp pain, and not the continuous pain that I had experienced earlier.
When she stepped on me again, I was not sure whether I felt pain any longer or I was going numb. I could feel her walk from my groin to my neck and back to my knees. She would occasionally step on my head and kick it, commenting on how hard my head was, “this one is not like the others. They made its head a bit tough; one would think it’s a real skull.” They laughed about it and stepped on me in turns, talking about how well structured I was and how real I looked. Several other girls followed, all of the stepping on me as they entered the house. The party was set to begin and I could hear the loud music from the house and I was even tempted to join everyone at the party but I could not risk being discovered. As time passed by, the music got louder and louder and Lucy, our neighbor came to the door to complain about the music. She is a thick woman with some good pounds of weight and I was a bit excited about how it would feel if she stepped on me. I had forgotten the earlier pain and was expecting this experience to be more interesting. When she got to the door, she stepped on my stomach and started knocking on the door furiously. Although she was in flat shoes, her weight was too much and she kept shifting weight from one leg to another as she got restless waiting for the door to open.
I remember the cracking sound that came from my breaking legs when she shifted to stand on my legs. At that moment, I tried to scream but couldn’t. It was then that I realized that my I could not even talk. My voice box had been injured when the girls stepped on my throat. As if that was not enough, Lucy started poking me and kicking me hard on the ribs to confirm whether I was really a dummy or not. She was convinced that she saw me moving but he did not know whether I really moved or it was just in her imagination. I remember her explaining to Joe how she heard a cracking voice when she stood on my legs Joe consoling him that all these were just dummies and probably the sound she heard was of the breaking wooden frame the dummies were made from.
Lucy asked Joe to turn down the music and when she left, I had resolved to move away from where I was to a safer place. I knew I couldn’t walk, so I tried to pull myself on my stomach. This is when I realized that I couldn’t move either. The impact of people stepping on me must have affected by lower back so badly that I could not move. I just lay there, helplessly, just hoping that somehow, someone would notice something off with one of the dummies, which is me. I was lucky that I could move my hands and as I lay there, I hoped that someone would come to the door so that I could reveal my identity and ask for help. But remember I couldn’t talk. So whenever I raised my hand, people though that it was just a dummy playing a trick. Girls would stomp over me and go past me without even noticing my efforts to call out for help. I thought I had had it all until one of the girls stepped on my ear as she rushed out to meet her friends at the front yard. My ears started bleeding profusely but the blood can not be seen through my mask.
