Ever since Fagin managed to get a job as teacher at a school that the previous teacher had retired from, things got much better for him and his dogs in terms of home, food and overall life.
They lived in a lovely apartment, with said apartment being in a building near the residence of Jenny Foxworth, the rent was consistently paid without a problem for Fagin, as he always had what was needed to pay it regardless of what else had been happening before and after and the ones from the Foxworth mansion who he and his dogs were close to, whether they had been before Sykes was done away with or not, would visit whenever they could.
It had now been a year since then, but the funny thing was that, for some reason, Rita had recently developed an incredibly gluttonous appetite, and it was none too long before the result of that caused her to gain a lot of weight.
Here's how fat she now is.
Rita was relaxing on her back, in the bed that she shared with her love, namely, Dodger, who, well before Fagin got his job but still after the aforementioned death of Sykes and both of his dobermans, had become an item with her and vice versa, when all of a sudden, she heard Dodger coming in from one of his explorations around the city, which he still enjoyed even with his new home.
Once he was in, he heard Rita say: "Hello, Dodger. So happy you're back." and he then said: "Hey, always great to be back and have you as the first thing I see, Rita."
Dodger stopped in his tracks and opened his eyes widely, seeing just how obese his girl had gotten.
Going over to where she was, Dodger said: "WHOA! Rita, you've been fattening up a lot lately, but now you're in a league of your own. This doesn't mean I don't want you anymore, mind you. I love you for you, obese or not. But even so..."
"Yeah, I have turned into, chances are, the city's fattest dog, it's true." Rita told him. "But that actually might turn out to be a lot of fun for both of us."
Dodger, realizing what she was saying, then said: "Yeah. There's so much more of you to love now!"
So he jumped up onto the bed to have fun with his giant girlfriend.
