To discover that I woke up a woman was a big shock, to say the least. Learning I had been out cold for nearly six months was another shock. "Do-Does dad know I'm a g-girl now?" frightened, I stammered.
The nurse sighed. "He knows, he signed the paperwork to have it done." gently, she said. "The nanite repair procedure is highly experimental and controversial, it needs work but it saved your life."
"Nanite repair procedure?" panic gripping me, I asked. "Does that mean!?"
The nurse again sighed. "You are a fully functional girl." softly, she replied. "It's really the doctor's job to tell you this but, for what its worth, you turned out to be a very attractive girl."
I could feel my heart in my throat as I blushed at the nurse's compliment. Everything seemed like a bad dream; why was I turned into a girl? Was the damage to my body that great? I might have been able to adjust to not having any 'male plumbing' but to be turned into a real girl? My thoughts were interrupted by a female doctor walking in with my dad and my little brother, Aaron. The doctor, holding a large file, spoke briefly with the nurse while dad pulled a chair up to the side of the bed and sat down.
"Hey, sport." almost whispering, he said. "I guess you would like some answers right about now."
"Dad, what did you do to me!?" crying, I asked. "Why was I out for six months!? Why am I now a girl!? What is this about a nanite repair procedure!?"
"Easy, sweetie." touching my arm, dad said. "It was the only way to save you."
"What does changing my gender have to do with getting hit with a truck!?" sobbing, I asked. "Dad, none of this makes any sense!"
"Allow me to explain, Miss Samuels." turning to me, the female doctor said. "I am Dr Mia Torres, I performed the radical procedure that saved your life."
"What happened to me?" frightened, I asked.
"Put simply, your entire pelvic region was completely crushed by the sheer weight of the truck that hit you." opening the file, she said. "Had the truck gone any further, your would have been killed instantly."
She showed me a picture from the scene of the accident, making me turn my head away in disgust until she put it back into the file. "That doesn't answer my question, doctor." shaking, I said. "Why am I a girl?"
Dr Torres sighed. "We were losing you, despite our best efforts, it was that bad." patiently, she replied. "There was little time so I personally told your father the risks behind the new procedure. He had only minutes to decide and signed the papers, allowing me the go ahead."
"What happened?" still frightened, I asked.
"The nanites were injected into several places in your body." flatly, Dr Torres said. "They repaired your body with incredible speed, it was remarkable to watch." she then sighed. "However, I only had minutes to program the nanites that would rebuild your body." she winced. "I accidentally set your gender to female."
"How can the nanites turn me into a girl?" shocked, I asked.
"I did not invent the nanites or the procedure." shaking her head, Dr Torres replied. "All I know is that they scan the patient's DNA and rebuild the body, following that 'blueprint' and the areas we program in to be repaired or rebuilt."
"So when you accidentally set my gender to female..." turning pale, I said.
Dr Torres gave me a guilty look as she replied, "The nanites made the appropriate 'corrections'."
This turned out to be too much for me and I fainted where I sat in the bed. When I eventually woke up again, I found that....
