“Everyone knows, man.” Wincing, Patrick said, “They called a school assembly after Aubrey Mitchell blabbed to the entire school about it.”
Aubrey Mitchell was the biggest gossip in school. Looking at Patrick, I said, “How did she find out?”
“Her mom’s on the nursing staff; she overheard her mom talking on the phone with one of the doctors.”
“The principal got on stage with the school nurse and the surgeon who’d operated on you.” Chiming in, Eric said, “They explained what happened; and how there was so much damage that making you a girl was the only way to give you a normal life.”
“You call this normal?” sighing, I said, “What’s normal about this?”
Wincing, Eric looked at me and said, "Take it easy, man; we have to adjust to this just as much as you."
"Oh really?" looking at them, my emotions getting the better of me, I said, "Unless I'm mistaken, you've never woken up from being in a coma for 6 months to find out that you'd been turned into a girl."
Looking at me, Eric said, "I-I didn't mean it like that..."
Glaring at them, I said, "Both of you get out!"
They both looked at me in silence for a moment; before quietly walking out of the room. After they closed the door, I made a note to ask Rachel about how severe these mood swings would get before I adjusted.
