Chapter #6

A Stallion For A Mare

    by: Gator Author IconMail Icon
To your displeasure, Amber, the colleague you had made the deal with, is waiting for you outside, standing at the bottom of the wooden porch’s trio of stairs. Your eyes lock with her emerald ones as you open the front door, and as your frown bloats and sinks deeper, her smile grows and rises higher, as if drawing in all the energy your face has shed to the warm summer air. She greets you with a wave.

“Morning!” She greets with a playful tilt of the head, swaying strands of her long, jet black hair. “Remember our arrangement, yeah?

You sigh, “I remember.” It takes a deep breath and a hard swallow to grumble out the following words, “Jackie’s yours today, as agreed.”

Her smile blossoms into a thin grin, revealing a line of perfect white teeth, “Sweet! I promise to take good care of her. And you’ll take good care of my horse, right?

Again, you sigh, “Yes, Amber. I’ll take good care of ___.”

[Dash: A young, dark bay stallion with black mane and tail. The youngest of the riding horses. Always energetic, he loves to pull pranks on his handlers, and though they come from a place of playfulness, never malice, he just doesn’t know when to quit.]

[Champ: A pure sable-black Friesian. The most popular of the riding horses, and the most popular sire, with his seed going for insane prices. In his physical prime, he is muscular, hulking, and intimidating, and as if aware of his value to the farm, he is demanding and domineering to his handlers.]

[Hoss: A bay Thoroughbred. A retired racehorse; now a sire who’s seed fetches a high price. Past his prime and a little chubby, but still decently-built. Relaxed, but still very proud of his career, he’ll take any chance he can to show that he’s still got it – even if his age is quick to creep in and squash the notion.]

[Mercury: A new stallion you’ve never seen yourself, but you’ve heard rumors that he has more “human-like” features – whatever that entails…]
