Chapter #4
You take a chance and run.
by: Unknown
Acknowledging that the odds are against you, you break into a full-on run, headed away from the buck. The area immediately around the pond is wide open field. There is almost nowhere to hide. And from the sounds behind you, the buck is continuing his pursuit. As the odds could have told you, you don't make it very far. Only a few dozen seconds pass before you trip over a rock, landing face-first into the soft grass. The fall dazes you for a few moments, allowing the buck to catch up to you. It takes awhile, but eventually you snap to. Lying face first in the grass, you experience a heightening of your senses. You can hear the moments of the grass, as they catch the slightest breeze. And you can hear deep breathing above you. You lay motionless, playing dead. But this buck isn't fooled. With one quick, and for you, painless motion, the buck rolls you over with his antlers, and gazes down on you. Your vision grabs the details. Before you stands a mature buck, around 4-5 years old. You've seen deer other places, but this on is by far the largest and healthiest you've ever seen. His antlers show his maturity proudly. No doubt a buck in his prime. However when the eyes of the buck meet yours, you see something. An emotion. This buck stands over you for a reason, and his eyes give him away. What do you see?
P.S. the next chapter will be from the buck's point of view.
