Once the week of the trip arrived, Marshall and Jules got their things packed and ready, and headed off to the resort. The plane ride went swimmingly, although Marshall and Jules couldn't help but notice how out of place they were, noticing that many of the other passengers were couples, but Jules had a positive outlook.
"We made it this far, right?" Jules remarked.
Marshall just rolled his eyes at Jules' remark.
As they arrived at the resort in the car that picked them up from the airport, both friends were taken aback by the resort. Not only was it huge, but it was well-protected. They had to go through a huge front gate to get in, and the visitor's center looked just as fancy as everything else. As they approached, they saw many couples walking the grounds, all enjoying the sun, surf and sand. As the two men exited the taxi, a resort employee strolled out of the visitor's center, an attractive brunette woman in a flowery dress.
"Nice to meet you two." the woman said, outstretching her hand to Marshall. "I'm Lexi and on behalf of the entire resort, I'd like to welcome you."
"Likewise. I'm..." Marshall started.
"Marshall, correct?" Lexi finished.
"Yeah, and this is..." Marshall started again.
"Your fiancee?" Lexi finished once more.
"Yes, I'm Jules." Jules stuck out his hand and shook Lexi's. "Unless of course you have a problem with that?"
"Of course not! I'm just making sure that we've got our information right. Now, Marshall, why don't you go check in, and I'll have your bags sent up to your room." Lexi said. "And Jules, if you'd be so kind as to follow me?"
"What for?" Marshall asked.
"We like to make sure we can accommodate our guests in the best way possible, so we like to have each guest fill out a questionnaire upon arrival." Lexi said.
"But why just me?" Jules questioned.
"Marshall already gave us his answers over the phone when he booked." Lexi said. "We usually have the spouse or partner answer when they get here because a lot of our customers have the trip be a surprise to the other."
"Makes sense." Jules nodded, before turning and whispering to Marshall. "What did you answer?"
"Between you and me, between how long ago it was, and all that happened with you know who... I don't even remember what I answered." Marshall muttered. "Just bluff it."
Jules nodded and followed Lexi's lead into an area off the lobby as Marshall headed for the front desk. In a small room, there was a table, a tablet computer, and a chair.
"Just take a seat and answer the questions. Once you finish, just head to the front desk and let them know who you checked in with, and they'll give you your room number." Lexi said, as she set up the tablet.
"Got it." Jules sat down at the desk and began to fill it out.
At first, it was just questions about his name, height and weight, which seemed strange, but he supposed if things at the resort had a requirement for those, it helped figure out who was allowed on or not. Then the questions got a little more specific, favorite vacation activities, what amenities Jules was looking most forward to utilizing during his stay, which he answered honestly, noting interest in the beach, pools and athletic club.
What almost threw Jules for a loop was when the questions started referring to Marshall, or rather, his "partner", things he liked about his partner, things he disliked, but then he remembered it was a couples resort, so presumably this was to promote peace and tranquility among couples. And having spent the last few months with Marshall, Jules definitely had some notes. Chiefly among them that he felt that Marshall wasn't dominant enough, he'd let Hannah boss him around, and any time he tried to stand up to her, the moment she came back at him, he cracked and let her walk all over him again. He also noted that he felt that Marshall needed to loosen up and be more adventurous.
While it was a weird survey, Jules didn't think anything was amiss and he filled in his answers.
