This choice: A gambler who owes too much money, and is given a strange way to pay it back. • Go Back...Chapter #4A gambler who owes too much money, and is given... by: Luna2lu   Jasper sighed deeply, his hand brushing through his long midnight black hair as the woman in the red hat revealed her royal flush. Groans broke out around the poker table.
"Looks like...Lady Luck is looking my way..." The woman smiled in triumph, sliding the pot, and the last of Jasper's chips, away and into her pile.
Jasper grimaced, his hands clenching into fists. He KNEW he was good at poker. This entire time he could have sworn the woman had been cheating, but no matter what, he never could catch her in the act...
It couldn't end like this... He was supposed to hit it big at this casino and start living like a prince!
"One more game..." the young man demanded quietly, even as the others stood, deciding not to risk losing more money.
"Hmm?" the woman looked up from her winnings.
"I'm sure something's not right here, " Jasper looked the woman in the eyes, "One more game, but I get to deal the cards."
"Young sir." the table attendant interrupted, "you have no chips left to play. And how do you plan to pay off the tab you've built?"
"Hold on..." The woman interjected. She looked Jasper up and down. "So because you lost to a girl at poker, she must be cheating, is that what you think?"
Jasper stayed silent.
The woman matched his gaze. She looked him up and down, from his light brown skin to his eyes as dark as his hair.
"Percy, give the boy the deck."
"Miss Jacqueline, but he has a large tab and-"
"Tell you what...you beat me and I'll pay off your whole tab and by you a new set of chips." the woman, Jacqueline, locked eyes with Jasper.
Jasper smiled. Things could be looking up...if she paid his tab, he might still be able to rack up his fortune with the chips...all he had to-
The woman slid the deck in front of Jasper. She folded her hands under her chin and gave him an unnerving smile.
"But if I win, you will have to do as I say. After all, the casino would turn you over to the authorities of you have a big bill you can't pay back..."
Jasper swallowed. That was true...he HAD lost track. Still...
This might be his only chance...  indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
