With a heavy sigh Samantha spoke, “Listen, it has been a long day for me so I am going to offer to pay the debt of these ladies and you avoid a lot of trouble.”
The slavers looked at each other assessing what they wanted to do. Albert readied his sword because he didn’t like the leers they were giving to Samantha who he was certain they would like to add to their collection. The ladies in the cage looked on with skeptical hope, fearful the price would be too high for these people to pay, this was their last chance before they left the kingdom and all but a whisper of hope faded.
“Five hundred gold,” the man at the head of the wagon spoke at last. “We have got expenses.”
“I will offer you two hundred,” Samantha replied. “There debts aren’t likely over a hundred combined and doubling your profit should be more than enough profit.”
“We are likely to make even more money if we were to take you in,” a thin slaver said as he played with his whip. A throwing dagger sliced the instrument of pain to just a handle leaving a shocked look on the face of the group. Samantha held another dagger at the ready to further indicate her threat.
“I said I was tired but I am willing to fight if the need arises,” She spoke in an ice-cold tone. “You might be able to get me inside that cage but I assure you will be losing at least three of your number, do you want to roll those dice?”
They were no longer as confident as they had once been as they looked at each other trying to figure out if they were the ones who would survive with all the profit. One of them started to reach for a crossbow but she waved her dagger no and the man stopped his attempt for the weapon.
“Three hundred,” the big man growled.
He was most likely willing to take less but an attractive woman threatening him had probably wounded his pride. It was a large sum but one she was willing to part with to get this encounter over with because she cared more about the freedom for the slaves and the slaying of humans. As repugnant as she found the men she preferred fighting monsters who had little hope of redemption from their evil ways.
“Okay, I accept,” Samantha handed a bag of gems to Albert. “Count out three hundred worth of gold for these men and toss it to them.”
She was still worried about their plans but they were quick to unlock the slaves once they had verified the value of the gems. Samantha watched them fade from view before she made any move to leave. She had no desire to have them know which path they take from this spot. Now that she had secured the freedom of the women she needed to decide what to do with them.
