The door protested loudly as he pushed it open to examine the inside, there was a temptation to just set fire to the entire thing but he should see what she had been up to. He was suspecting just a minor hedge wizard but he wouldn’t be sure until he got inside.
Sir Garrett kept his blade out uncertain what he would find. A thousand odors assailed his nose many of them like the herbs were almost pleasant but the bits of animal flesh were far less so. It didn’t appear housekeeping was less than stellar with bits of entrails on the floor. Books were strewn about, cautiously he turned the pages to find various formulas and potions. The languages weren’t familiar to him but the scrawlings looked ominous.
He moved carefully past precariously stacked vials of glowing liquors certain he didn’t want them falling upon him. A couple of heavy blows shattered the lock on a chest revealing a treasure trove of stuff within. The sack within spilled an assortment of metallic coins as well as gems collected from a lifetime of ill-gotten gains. Papers contained information on the woman’s dark dealings but the strangest thing within was the chain mail armor.
“How is this supposed to protect anyone?” the metal bikini hung from the tip of his sword. “Why would she have this?”
It was hidden away and in a protective cloth so it was likely some sort of cursed item.
Nothing else of note was found in the place leaving the paladin with a decision to make before continuing the mission. Many of the items here would be dangerous in the wrong hands but how should he deal with the dangers in the tiny cottage?
